M1A or M14 – Tomaeto Tomoto

I call mine an M14; basically that is what it is. So it doesn't have the selector switch; big deal, at least I can take it out hunting without penalty. Saying it is not an M14 is like saying a Uberti 1873 SAA is not an 1873SAA because Colt didn't make it.

My rant ...Thk

They go by many name here on CGN but they are M1A's, not a M14. M14 are by definition have a select fire which makes them a converted auto (full auto/semi auto).

Sorry Katana, you're wrong dude...

If it aint made by Springfield, it aint an M1A.

"Forum Correction Nazis" I believe is what they are called, they have a few departments branching out like the "Spelling Correction Nazis", the "Newbie Pounding Nazis", the "I Know More Than You Do Which Is Why Im Right Nazis" and the most common ones are the "This Question Has Been Asked Here In The Forums Before So Do Your Reaserch You F***ing A***ole Nazis"

I will never get tired of yooour sarcasm. :agree:

I think the op means who cares what we call it. The people who know will know what others mean by the different names. And also I think the op means its just not cool to bug others with that they are wrong it's a this not that.

And the people who don't know and are antis they will be scared no mater what you call it

So how does it not being made by Springfield change anything?? It's the design not the manufacturer and by design the "M14" had to be select fire.

Anybody ever heard of the term "Copyright" ???

If I start making pop, do you think I can legally call it Coke?

Springfield owns the name M1A, so nobody else can call it that.

Does this make me a forum correction Nazi in my own thread ragging about forum correction Nazis?

Kinda reminds me when reading the newspaper editorials (yes, there are some of us whom enjoy that pastime). Every once in a while some doofus literature professor or an annoying retired English teacher will chime in with a lesson in how to correct us illiterates. In their minds they corrected an abominate wrong. To the rest of us...they look hopelessly silly. They can't help it - their OCD just impulses them to having no choice but to correct us for the sake of humanity - they won't rest until the wrong is righted. Yup - just silly.

Hee hee - I'm gonna take my M14 platform (with the absent automatic select fire mechanism) out to the range with fully loaded bullet holder thingy's and shoot some paper zombies. :p :HR:

I agree...somewhat. It's the same with "scotch tape"...but if I use a no-name brand of cellophane tape and call it "scotch tape" is every el-facto in the office gona jump on me because it was not manufactured by that company? In general conversation call it whatever is comfortable...if you're selling/buying/bragging be more specific or accurate. IMO
