To revive this thread a little I'm upgrading my 1.5 MOA Challenge result (see post #139). Haven't shot the M305 much since the Fall having been distracted by a new AR but took her for a spin today even though the conditions were frigid. The last tweak was bedding the heel of the receiver into the Blackfeather stock. After 5 warm up shots on a different target with Norinco bulk, I switched to this target using my ol' regular load of 39.5 grains of 3031 under a 168 BTHP.
Net results, Average 1.169" (1.117 MOA), max group size 1.452" (1.387 MOA), min group size 0.731" (0.698 MOA). As Tony has said, these are getting too easy. Will definitely have to take out to the 200 yard line.

I had forgotten all about this thread. Now this closet M14 lover is chomping at the bit for some decent weather. I've got 3 Norc's in the safe (love them) and recently acquired an M1A Loaded which shot about 2-3 MOA with cheap ammo (Norc and some old Czech stuff) and about 1.5MOA with XM80 in a Boyd's walnut stock. I've now set it up in a JAE-100 stock and am really hoping to at least scare MOA with hand loads. I've got a bunch of LC brass, 168gr. SMK's and LC 147gr. bullets and H4895 to work with, and am really hoping to meet this challenge once we get a decent day (the last month of weather here has been terrible!). Come on spring!

Great groups Tony! Who says that M1As can't shoot. You're tempting me to start playing with my rig again. I've strayed over the last few months into IPSC. Too much fun to be had and not enough time.
Nice shooting Tony, and what a sweet rifle!
Great shooting and Ive been following your build Tony.
...but, when are you going to bed that thing..the suspense is killing me..lol

Hi All,
I'm finally back in action after almost 6 months away from the shooting scene. Got out today with my modified Norinco 14S to try the challenge again, only the second time I shot it since the mods and had high hopes....Sigh...
It is a 2007 Norinco M14S that I had originally installed in a Blackfeather stock with no other mods except the M14.ca recoil spring guide and spring, shot over 2000 rounds with no malfunctions but the thin barrel caused so much stringing that it was making me crazy so I installed a springfield take off medium barrel and bolt from Tactical Teacher and a USGI gas system from Treeline.
The rifle now has the Norinco reciever, trigger group, flashhider, and op rod, the parts noted above and an M14.ca sight base with a Bushnell 8-32 scope.
My attempt today resulted in a .987, 1.232, 1.324, .712, and .......1.560 group. (always rush the last group right?)
No excuses, the rifle can do it, we will see eventually if I can.

Might have to have a go at this. Was doing some load development today and the group below was the best, so far, 1.404" so 1.34MOA. 168r Hornady HPBT over 40.8gr of IMR-4895 in Federal cases. Rifle is a '09 Norc, I think. Shimmed USGI gas system, SAI muzzle brake sitting in a USGI fibreglass stock with a reinforced front end but not bedded yet. The question now is do I stay content with that group or keep chasing the node with some loads I had made up with Benchmark that had some promise...
