Gents. I have a 12/3 Thompson that I would like to strip down to parkerize. As the Change lever is welded in the Semi position I cannot hold the sear down while sliding the upper from the lower. Sear continually pops and grabs the bolt. Anyone have a trick they can recommend to help?

Ernie Blake used to use a length of very strong thin string (I suggest you try fishing line) and slide it along the metal between the upper and lower receivers. Apparently that pushed something out of the way (the rocker or rocker pivot) and he was able to slide the upper receiver completely away from the lower.

If the finish is fine, I would leave it. If it isn't , check the park color. Make certain you use the right color
for the gun.
As a collector, I have seen guns that were done in the wrong color and it wasn't worth it.

Thanks for the advice I will try both methods once I get my hands on it again. As for originality I am also doing a couple of stens, FNs, and some handguns. All have a poor finish and I am more interested in enjoying them now than what they may be worth when my kids deactivate them. Thanks for the input however.
