Hey Guys,
So I have purchased a M305 from a site online (which I will not name). The rifle came with a Boyds walnut stock and is in excellent condition, I am extremely happy with the rifle asides from one issue, Barrel Indexing. I do understand that it isnt truly the Canadian brokers issue if the barrel is improperly indexed. To make matters worse i work in a remote camp so this is the first time using the weapon since i have purchased it over 5 months ago (haven't been home in awhile)
The issue I noticed at the range today is that the Op Rod guide is brushing the bottom of the barrel and causing a shiny area, this was what drew my attention causing me to look into this issue future. I also noticed my shots were dead center at 25m and 50m however when i worked out to 100m I was left of my point of aim, some of this could be due to improper indexing, some to sight alignment.
Once I returned home, I placed the rifle on a level surface and used a laser level to see if the front sight is standing vertical or to an angle. As I suspected the front sight is slightly canted to the left (when looking down the barrel) which indicates an over index barrel.
My question is, what are my options to fixing an over-indexed barrel? Can i bring it to a gun smith and ask him to "unwind" the barrel slightly without risk of the rifle having a major malfunction. I am located in Nova Scotia, are there any known gunsmiths to CGN who work on m305s? I havnt been able to take it to the farm and test it at 200m+ which would show the effects of indexing issues correct?
The Weapon functions fine with the odd miss cycle, round loaded into the chamber but bolt didnt fully #### hammer.
