m305/m14 light weight stocks?

Hopefully this link works. I'm working from my phone while out of province. But here's what you can do for a homemade stock with some basic tools and a little patience. With the scope and bipod removed it's very lightweight, much lighter than the original chinese plastic stock.

Very nice indeed :)
Keepin it cheap and doin it yerself = win win, win.
Just wondering, with all those slots in the handgaurd, do you get any optical distortion with the heat ?
Might be able to shave another 1/2 oz off mine if I cut up the handgaurd some :)

so money is being saved as we speak to purchase the black feather!!:sniper: now my question is for that stock, is there any way that i can change the bolt that holds the op rod guide to a thumb tighten bolt eg a butterfly ? just for easier cleaning and less tools to carry around, remember prepper here!:ninja:

:) The bolt we use is a 1/4-20 x .920" inch Grade 8 frame Bolt. We cut a 1" bolt down and grind the tip perfect flat to .920" to ensure it does not interfere with oprod travel. Then we have the bolt re-coated. If you are replacing this bolt, be careful that your new bolt does not interfere with oprod travel when tight. Do your "Tilt Test" and "Hammer Follow Safety Test" prior to firing. For more information on these tests, please consult page 12 and page 13 of this document. On another note, the Grade 8 frame bolt has a 3/8" head to allow you to use your original M14 tool for disassembling your Blackfeather "RS" rifle stock.

Hungry (correction: tacticalteacher) was encouraging me to post a how-to instructional on a DIY stock. As soon as I'm back in BC I'll put together a post with photos and/or video on how you can easily and affordably make your own.

As a sidenote: if you ever have the chance to attend a hungry clinic, jump at the opportunity. I hear thomas' clinics are amazing as well but i havent been fortunate enough to attend one of his clinics.

You should check out vltor if you can get your mitts on one. I didn't want the black but that was all that was available, it did turn out better then what I thought.

It's pretty light as well. I kept the chicom black hand guard... added the versa pod mount... ARMS 18 mount... Vortex sparc.... some CMI mags and thats about it.

As far as weight goes i'm not too worried.. it's still light enough to shoulder and fire... especially when you utilize the sling.

The stock had excellent packaging.. clear identified parts.. mil-spec etc and the date assembled and QC'd. You can also swap out the stock and grip. It is a USGI stock... but the inside of it is crazy looking... it screams hand made/assembled. all the metal parts inside the stock are covered with a paint/epoxy... it looks like one solid piece of fiberglass... you would never know there was metal on the inside.

not bad my friend! i think im still going to get the black feather only because its Canadian built i like to keep things going here! Anyone that has the black feather one question that just popped into my mind is, when you shoulder your rifle say at a standing position do you find it front heavy or is it balanced?

These comments on the VLTOR-equipped M14 rifle's weight are from the M14Forum, content attributed to user "henschman"

"As for the weight figures, the rifle in the Vltor stock, unloaded, with the ARMS mount but without the ACOG attached, weighed 9.4 lbs. The same rifle in the factory Springfield plastic stock weighs 8.6 lbs (I was surprised it was that low, since SAI's site lists it at 9.3 lbs. unloaded weight). So actually, the Vltor stock weighs about .8 lbs. more than a plastic SAI stock. The Vltor stock seemed to weigh about the same as my friend's GI fiberglass stock, though I didn't have a chance to weigh the fiberglass stock to confirm. In any case, the Vltor stock really is a nice lightweight stock... much lighter than a Sage, Troy, or JAE. It isn't tension-bedded like those though... it is made from a GI fiberglass stock... but it is an exceptionally tight-fitting stock. It was actually hard to get my rifle into. I imagine it will allow for plenty of accuracy."

I've given it some thought and if I could find good used (test fired) M305 for $500 here's what I'd do
USGI Walnut stock $150
Flash suppressor $100
NM guide rod $75
Sights $100
Bolt parts kit $100

I would bed the action to the stock, lap the trigger sear hooks and shim the gas cylinder.

Another $1000 would go to a GI bolt and a barrel.

I looked at a few different butt stocks, and chose the CTR.
I added the Enhanced Recoil Pad from MDT

nice i like the look of that, i really want a ati pistol grip but they only have the grips with beaver tails :( i think i may just stick with the acs only reason there is room to put a cleaning kit and any spare parts i wish to carry. oh i just noticed but where did you get the bolt stop/ release?

Hey H2O man, How do you like that MDT recoil pad? I bought the magpul enhanced pad and think it's pretty decent. offers a little better grip and a little bit of recoil absorption.

I have my blackfeather M14 set up pretty similar. CTR stock and the Hogue grip is another good option Rob_man. I also have the M14.ca CASM mount and an optic on mine, something you should check out.
