Just painted the windage and elevation marks on a Springfield rear sight using a product called Lacquer Stik. To use: degrease metal surface, fill in depressions with paint stick, wipe of excess before it dries. The paint is very soft. Has consistency of feta cheese. Clean excess off with soft cloth. Stubborn areas can be cleaned with Magic Eraser pads. Once dry it becomes hard and durable. It expands and contracts with the metal and is heat resistant. Very happy with the results. The markings really stand out.

I just raided the local daycare (say no to bullies) around the neighborhood and demanded they let me access the bottoms of their crayola stashes. There are many unused white crayons to be had since no self respecting daycare kiddo will ever colour with them useless white crayola.

Some people at my last M1'Garand ' clinic cleaned me out of all my white grease pencils that I had for sale. :)

Over the past two years I just used found whiteout bottles in our high school hallways and wiped off the excess with a cloth soaked in Acetone or stolen (from my wife) fingernail polish remover. Yuk yuk yuk

Cheers and keep helping them noobies.

This is something that i have been doing for years. Where it comes in real handy is with the roll engraving things like Ithaca 37's some browning shotguns, or if you have a collection and want all the markings on the steel to be easily seen. I can also be handy when you have something on thew table for sale like a Winchester Model 1893 and everyone keeps picking it up thinking 1897 even though the sign say Model 1893. Ready to slap the next guys that points out someone buggered the 1897 by cutting a chunk out of the ejection port.... so the White Lacquer Stik, (they have Gold ones too!) made for an easy remedy to show the sign was in fact correct.

Sort of an ideal thing to have for those who's eye sight isn't the best and reading the Serial Number is a pain.

Well I forgot to mention that you could go to your local Staples Business Depot and search for WHITE Grease pencils (Some call them China Markers) , but you gotta buy them in a box of TEN.

A single grease pencil in white will last you a lifetime! :D

Cheers and keep helping them noooobs around here!

I quite like the finished product. I've been using oil pastels, but they tend to "rub out" if they are handled a little too much. Going to give this product a try.

There are hordes of products that'll do nicely. Whiteout works. As does regular white modeler's paint. The whole thing is a peace time U.S. Army NCO quirk though.

I just took a white crayon to the markings on my Winnie Model 70 precision rifle. I could not resist. I am a Winchester roll stamp lover so the super great engraving now has the white crayon in it and it sure looks sharp.

:) cheers

You'd cry over the Win. Model 1893 I have then. Some, Buba got a hold of it and thought he could install a dovetail rear sight in the barrel. Guess where he made his mark on the barrel......
