Help. Just bought a m305, safety does engage but if you pull the trigger hard enough,or jiggle it, the safety will disengage and rifle will fire. Thoughts?
Rifle passes all other checks

That is not the way they are supposed to behave. Suggest you strip out the trigger group and check that the retainer spring (a single piece bent in an arc is fully seated. You might have all the right pieces and they are assembled properly, but if each one is out-of-spec for size, of course things won't be right.

Is the rifle brand new out of the box? If yes, check that you are doing things right before #####ing to the seller/importer. Otherwise, contact them politely and arrange for a warranty replacement.

Oh, of course I'd go about it politely. I'll try and find an exploded diagram for the trigger group and have a closer look see before I take any action.

the trigger group comes out in one unit. you can see the inner workings and make it go through it's paces in hand. all the workings are visible.no need to take it apart if you are not comfortable doing it.(springs can fly into the darnest places)

I have the same problem with mine first time I go to the range the safety disengage by pressing the trigger,it back to the guns store, there gunsmith is fixing it,i did a thread on this look it up it will explain what to do.

I have seen no less than 4 M305's in the last 2 months missing the safety spring. All were new, factory sealed rifles. I suspect Norinco QC has dropped even lower than normal... hard to imagine I know. If the safety doesn't click on and off with some resistance, I suspect that is your problem as well. Bring the rifle back and have your retailer fix/replace it.

don't mess with it...... return it plain and simple, they sold you a defective rifle .

If all else is ok with the rifle I would keep it. This is a norc, you may just get a real lemon back if you return it. I have the same issue with my safety never could figure it out but it works perfectly when the rifle is out of the stock...I 'll figure it out someday. I decided not to return the rifle because everything else was top notch. I don't really ever use the safety on this rifle because when there is a cartridge in the chamber I'm about to shoot it.

Not sure if you have tried this fix? It worked perfect for me after grinding down a bit of material, it was a wood USGI stock btw.

The fix is pretty easy for the most part....the issue stems from dimensional differences in the stock that effect the trigger group/receiver spacing relationship. In 95% of the guns I have seen exhibiting this problem, fixng it involves milling/sanding out a small amount of material from the ledge on the bottom of the stock where the back end of the trigger group sits. The following photographs are of a SAGE stock, however it is no different on a USGI or wooden one:

For your rifle to be safe, the disconnector in your trigger group MUST catch the hammer when the trigger is fully depressed while the action cycles:

Good luck...

I just used a dremel tool and took a bit off at a time, its wood so didnt need too much convincing ;)
Make sure you take a bit off near the hole as the pics show.

+1.

You have no idea what else could be wrong with the trigger group. It's not a question of whether you use the safety or not, it's that the rifle clearly does not function as it is supposed to. Bring it back.

my thoughts exactly
it's awesome, all the guys here sharing the fixes that helped them with their rifles. that is what this forum is all about...... but.... sometimes the best advice IS the simplest. don't mess with trigger issues unless you know it's a simple thing. Like stock fit causing hammer follow..... we've all been there done that and know the easy fixes like shaving the trigger bearing areas of the stock ect.
BUT something like a malfunctioning safety, while it could just be a poorly assembled unit , let the point of sale figure that out and take the responsibility. messing with it could void any assistance the retailer may be ready to offer you.
good luck, hope you get her figured out.
