M4 carbines

My girlfriend found out about my email confirmation...

She didn't seem too happy.

I promised her that the rifle is for her to practice shooting .22 *cough cough*
I live another day but will have to het a .22 conversion upper... How much are those again?

They are $300 from one of the site's sponsors. But if you have time to wait for one, you can always order it from Brownells for $200. Not sure how long will Brownells process your order though...

Good luck with your excuse. At least you will die happy with the Norc :)

Since I decided not to get a newer truck, I should maybe order one of these. Always wanted an AR, but the price combined with the range only restrictions put it just over the "not for me" range. But this price outs it nicely into the "I want it" category.

any word on how many of these are coming in?

Just got my name in, PO #95 at noon on the 13th (Mountain time) and they figured they had enough coming in for another week or so worth of pre-orders so no worries like John said.

Since Marstar sold about 100 in a week's time and John said he has another week or so of stock left, I'm suspecting he ordered around 200-250 CQ5.56's. Buy them while they are still available!

You can feed.223 through 5.56 but do not feed 5.56 through a .223. As I was told by a highly knowledgeable person was that M-305/M14 uses 7.62X51, which is military, and that .308 is the commercial version. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I am not sure of these but the one i have now is stamped 5.56, and i have shot tons of 5.56 through it with no problems.

There's a thread in the black/green rifle forum out there that basically tell you why
5.56 won't work in .223 fitting.
.223Rem Vs. 5.56NATO - is it safe to interchange??

It's posted there.
As to find out if it's safe. I'd take the Upper to a gun-smith to confirm a 5.56 fitting.
Just to be sure.

I learned something new. Edited

Many people use them interchangeably without problems. NATo 556 is higher pressure and may be slightly longer case. I wouldn't be concerned with these unless reloading, where case life will be a consideration. The 97 norc M14s seem to run slightly high in headspace and there's plenty of good information which is pretinent to this situation as well.
If anyone has a source for cheap but higher pressured5.56 and they don;t want to use it in their norc M4 please forward it to me. I'll video the shooting and let you watch the results

I have yet to see a single CONFIRMED case of a single firearm ever having been damaged by interchanging 5.56 and 223Rem. It is a non-issue, same for 7.62NATO vs 308Win.

Reloading on the other hand <may> be an issue since case capacity in milsurp cases tend to be a hair smaller than the commercial varieties, IF the individual handloader likes to dance around max loads.

My norc m14 is 13 thousandths over on headspace. I believe 7.62 is slightly longer than .308. I'll shoot 7.62 without worry. The norc is marked 308 and shooys either safely unless other non-caliber issues are present.

So can these M4's be easily turned in to tack drivers? Is it just a matter of spending the $$$ on better parts? Is it worth it or is it case of trying of make a silk purse out of sows ear? This is my first foray into black guns which is quite frankly just because the entry price is so low. If this goes as my other endeavors usually do, I will end up tinkering for accuracy and was wondering what potential this platform has.
