Very VERY slow day at work so I need some entertainment! So who here owns a clone/build from the M40 Family!

M40
M40A1
M40A3
M40A5

They are all great looking rifles and I would like to see who what yours look like! Did you do a 100% clone or did you take some liberties? Do you enjoy the rifle? Post pictures!

I am working on putting a clone-ish A1 together but only have a base 700 and a USO so far. I picked up an A5 stock to throw on it in the meantime but now I need a different optic for the interim haha.

Your build Im waiting to see come into fruition!

I'd like to start a build. I was going to order one a couple years ago from GAP, but ended up with a Gladius instead. So until I have enough spare scratch around I built a .22 clone. I know it sounds silly... but I really have been digging the M40-66 which I believe was a model they used in Vietnam, correct me if I'm wrong.

My .22 clone is a Remmington 581 in a left hand bolt, Burris .22 rings, and I was able to find a Redfield 2×7 (still looking for a 3×9). This has become probably my favorite rifles to shoot as of lately. Here are some a couple links if you'd like.

If anyone knows of complete rifles or parts, and they want to get rid of them. I could easily be talked into buying them off you. PM me

I wish more companies would build .22 versions of their rifles!

Hey Dennis, is it for sale:p

Not really... it's my last center fire rifle I own. Chambered in .243 Win. I have trued the action and bumped the bolt, reworked the engagement of the cocking piece and trigger so it closes very smoothly. Did the trigger too... about 2 pounds and crisp. Added a Kwik Klip conversion. Shoots factory ammo just under 3/4".

Well I really need a stock at this point. I just got in touch with one dealer to see about getting one ordered up, I like the HTG with the grip added to it, but I would also like a more correct one. Decisions....

This is it in the meantime, need to bed it and play with the spacers a bit or go to a rail for the USO. Haven't taken it out since getting the stock, too freaking cold!

Nice stick Deadman. BTW where did you get the USO scope? I saw one on Ellwood Epps's sight for around 3 grand. Got snapped up fast.

That's the one I got. Got a tip from the OP here and then figured what the heck, might be a while before seeing another one. Was it a good price? I don't know, (not too many here in Canada that I've seen to compare numbers). But the prices have gone up every time USO has released a new batch so figured it wasn't getting much better.

Optics wise the MST-100 is the scope to make that M40A1 build. A cheaper way though is to run a Weaver T10 scope. The first M40A1 rifles seemd to have these on them for a short period of time until the MST-100 was installed. In fact there is a picture with Carlos Hatchock sitting with an M40A1 with a Weaver scope.

As for your rifle deadman, it looks good in that stock. I really liked my A5 stock for my Tikka. I've been debating on picked up an A4 stock so when I feel like something different I can pull the action out of the A1 stock and throw it into the A4 stock to make an M40A3 clone :p

Yes I know the MST would be the preferred choice, just mentioned the ST-10 in case someone wanted a cheaper option that would be a reasonable? facsimile (similar features).

If I were still looking I'd probably opt for the Weaver, I'd just tell myself it was a "transitional" version. I'd still like to get one of them anyway, just not really high on the list right now.

The A5 stock I got wasn't perfect for me, it was inletted for a heavy barrel and a Surgeon action. Little clearancing/fitting and its good now. I'm debating "bedding" the Rem bottom metal into it though, as the inlet is much bigger than the piece I'm using. Just want to make it work, its a stop-gap until I get the proper stock.
