M40 Family - Who owns one?

I got 4 shots off last weekend to make sure my rifle, optic and ammo is up to speed...

1" gong @ 200 meter hit.
2" gong @ 300 a hit.
2 1/2" gong at 400 a hit.
4 1/2" gong at 600 a hit...

All four shots in less than 5 seconds off the poles...

Next week is the same test off the single stick and the fist size gongs on up to the 600 meter pie plate,,, I'll need to slow it down if I'm going to get solid hits... Ha...

The furry critter hunt is soon to get underway... Oh Yha...

PS: I see there is a build underway,,, good on you folks for keeping it going,,, I'll be bring my mod 308 to work on it at hunting camp... That way the 16 lb'er will need less work when the winter snow roles in.

I'll let you know when my stock arrives. Thinking about a re-barrel right now. Suggestions? Any thoughts on an estimated cost to do this? Never gone down this road before, no clue.

Contact the guys at Alberta Tactical Rifle, they should be able to give you a quote.

Stock is at the dealer now, just need to decide if I should call it good enough or send the rifle to them to go all out on it. Or, do I keep this Franken40 the way it is and pick up another 700 to do the A1 with? I do kinda like this bastard, its grown on me.

A refresher pic in case anyone wants it. I'd put the MST-100 on the new rifle (if I go that route) but then I'd have to get a new optic for this one too.

Needs a m24 trigger.
Correct bipod.
Correct rings.
Correct optic (pipe dream)

I have a correct MRT marked sling for it but need the swivels.

That looks great, saw the lug slotting detail earlier and looks like great work. The other bits and pieces can be had, and what’s the fun without having to track down a few rare parts. That’s a nice optic on it right now-USO? And you have the correct stock which some of us don’t. I have a retro 2 screw cheek piece kit from McM but have yet to fit and install it.

Anyway nice rig, looking forward to the range report

Sure is.

It's a US optics st10 non illuminated.
I'll get it zeroed and then get doped up.
Here are the other pics.

Cheers

Nice looking rig BP and AG,,, I can't wait till after hunting season to start a work over on my next project.

I got a chance today to see 2 M series 308's in action at the range...

M24 and M50 sniper class,,, talk about beautiful rifles,,, deffinatly in the eye of the beholders...

Cheers from the North

PS: Hunting season is a go after this weekends shoot...

Now we wait on Deadman.....no pressure!

I took the plunge and am getting something done. Have to say though, I can't take any credit for it, I'm paying someone to put a rifle together for me now. Its not a down-to-the-last detail clone, but it should satisfy my itch. Its being built with a new SPS as a base but re-barreled with a USMC profile tube.

I'm keeping my phoney baloney MFaux-T in the A5 stock as is, this is going to be a new rifle.

I must be getting old or lazy, I'm paying someone to build me a rifle, and I just paid someone to build me a fence. Next week someone else is coming to redo my eavestroughs. Or maybe I'm just getting smart and learning my limitations. You can only do so much in a day...

Here's a pic of my new stock (courtesy of ATRS), the rest will have to wait until they are done with it. Its an HTG with the brown pad, Wichita swivels, and I had them add the bumpy stuff to the grip and the fore end. As its not an attempt at passing as a real issue rifle, I figured I might as well make it how I'd want it.

My MST will get swapped onto it, then I need to find a new optic for the other one. I'm open to donations of S&B scopes.

Nice! Can’t wait to see that one all done as well!

I’m just waiting for the right scope to come along to finish off the .223 look alike, then on the the full ‘close to clone’ build.
