So the girlfriend asked me this morning to take her picture while she was holding my favorite rifle. My two favorite things together! :p

Man I love these pics! I can only dream of a poor man's M40, nowhere near the awesomeness of the rifles in this thread. Thanks guys for the inspiration!

Nice this thread still going....and maybe another new rifle?

For those with builds on the go, does anybody have any contacts for the Unertl/USO lugged base with rings? I know an original is out of the question, but I have seen some nice reproductions..

Thanks guys!

There was a guy in the US doing a run but that was awhile ago and I haven't heard of anyone doing a run of them. At this time it's all about finding someone that has a spare they are willing to get rid of. I know many people bought three or four of them originally.

Thanks....yes I’ve seen a guy on the M40 forum that looks like he has made them, but no contact info and not too active on the site. Would like to have the receiver properly clip slotted and machined for the base prior to assembly ‘just in case’ I can ever find/afford an MST100.....but would like to have the base in hand.

T10 will reside for now.....can’t find the correct rings for that either but can substitute.

They pop up on his eBay site from time to time. Price is usually $450 USD. They fit Rem 40x factory clip slotting fine, the rear lug on the base is deliberately manufactured slightly oversized so it can fitted to the specific receiver. You can also have a more simple lug slotting done to allow the fitting as well once you have the base in hand. There are machinist drawings of the 40x clip slot and thumb scallop online that you could use if you wish to clip slot it ahead of time.

I have a couple of spare lugged 20 MOA bases that accept Leupold STD rings front and rear and are similar to the Unertl bases but not clone exact that I am not using if you’re interested.

this is what I was originally going to do making a "look a like" M40A1 rifle before buying njohnson's rifle :p

Thanks for the info ArmedGinger and njohnson!

As much as this will not be a clone build, I’m trying to plan ahead to make it close as parts maybe become available. It won’t have a correct receiver so I’ve taken some liberties with the stock to be more practical (texture, and BDL).
I was thinking to get the receiver machining done and cerakote it once....put a rail on it to utilize quality optics until the mount and scope make in to my hands. I can put the T10 on to make it more authentic, but do I want to look through foggy glass on a rifle that will shoot....?

Been at this for a long time and waiting to build a spec clone is just too expensive and time consuming...LOL!

So Gents:

I have my beady little eyes on another firearm.
I may be looking to part with my M40A3

I thought I would post this here so those who love these rifles can PM me and perhaps we can come to an arrangement.
