Nice photos! I am a little biased towards your rifle mind you......

Until Terry gets my A1 barreled action back to me I’ll have to post some old photos of the A5 in Texas....

I’ve got the centre position, rifle on the right is a Larue OBR with a suppressor.

White targets are for zero check @ 100 yards, the lanes in the distance stretch out to 1600 with steel at various ranges. I thank my wife for the bucket list trip.

Wow that looks like an awesome range!

It was a fantastic trip thanks to my better half. Austin Gun Club in good old Texas. I probably drove for 45 minutes on a paved road bordered on both sides with ranch fences and those classic Texas ranch entrance gates. All the property must be privately owned by cattle ranchers. Sometimes you couldn’t even see the house on the property the lots were so huge. I didn’t see another car the whole time. It was way more grassy and green than I expected for Texas.

4 lanes with steel gongs out to 1000m, one lane out to 1650m. Wide open terrain and you could see the weather coming when it was miles away. At one point I had the windage knob maxed out for left wind and had to hold mils in addition to that.

Most of the American guys had Larue OBR’s The instructor put on his ear muffs saying it was for us “savages” who don’t run suppressors.

There is a yearly shoot that takes place at the USMC base in Quantico. They open it up to the public who bring their "USMC" rifles. M1903A4, M40, M40A1 and right up to civilian built M40A5. They even open up the armory and bring out a few of the real sniper rifles for people to try out. I got invited to it last year but I certainly didn't have the money. Now with COVID I wonder if I'll ever get the chance!

My daughter got this rifle this morning, but no I did not dress myself in ribbons. Thanks to a member here who put the rifle together for me. He can chime in if he'd like, other than that I'll respect his privacy. Lighter profile barrel for her to manage it, just need to mount an optic and do a couple odds and ends to it.

It's hard to stop building them.
I did four, 2x308 2x223 using 40x guns
Now doing one with a Remington 5r
Did a model 70 308 Winchester 68 era all Winchester parts
Have all the stuff to assemble a model 70 3006 winchester 68era all winchester parts
Winchester is really hard to do, parts and original 3006 heavy barrel and original stock took for ever
308 was original clip cut 3006 won't be, thought about getting it done

I have a New Year's itch to scratch, thinking about an earlier M40 style rifle. I would like to do it with actual vintage parts, need to start my research. Open to suggestions (or offer of parts! ;))

Also, any pics of other members' rifles (including detail pics) would be appreciated for reference.

So you need to find a Remington 40X made around the late 50s or Early 60s. Then find a Redfield 3–9 power Accurange variable scope and have it painted in green.

Still waiting for a good deal on a rem 700 action.... They are gertting scarse. Don't want to pay the price of a full rifle just for the action.....

Sadly I knew where a Remington 700 Receiver was that had a serial number that would fall into the correct dates for use in a real M40A1 clone. Didn't have the money though to buy the rifle just for the receiver.

I hear you, I'm snooping around for an older one. The old Varmint Special I got my daughter for Christmas would make a reasonable facsimile, but I can't use that one haha.

I know the basics for what they should be but I'm not looking for 100% accurate clone, more like the way I did my A1. But looking to use vintage parts with some wear on them, my A1 is too pretty!

Square safety, short bolt shroud, dinged up old stock with sling swivels......

a vintage 40X isn't too hard to find, there have been many for same in these forums. If you don't want total clone then any 3-9 Redfield will work. :D

Wolverine sells a repro green red field for under $500 and it looks pretty good, made by Hi Lux, and they used to sell the Badger Ord repro M40 scope base with rings based on the old Redfield 40x bases used.

Hope a direct link to a site sponsor is okay : htt ps://www.wolverinesupplies.com/ProductDetail/HLXM40USMC39X40_-Hi-Lux-Optics-M40-USMC-3-9X40-Green-Sniper-Scope-with-Auto-Range-System-#?sortValue=0

I picked up a older 40x barreled action with correct clip slots and action cuts, thumb cut out, old style bolt handle/knob of etc for less than $900 for my A1 build ( not A1 correct I know but has all the features I wanted already performed)

Long bolt shroud can be machined into a short one easily. They used to be available through Brownells but are discontinued now.
