M40A3 - My new member of the family!

Well done on a very difficult build.

I am sure it will shoot splendidly.

What do you plan on feeding it?

Jerry

Gonna do some handloading of some 155 Lapua Scenars, as well as some Sierra 175 HPBT's.

I already have some 168 HPBT match.

Gonna make the copy of the M118LR 175 grain ammo - gonna use IVI brass instead of LC though.

Carl

you have one hell of a rifle there!! way to go!! i have a friend who was a scout sniper with the 5th marine regiment!! i shot his m40a3 in quantico last year just before he left for iraq. it is one sweet rifle!!! congrats man, heal up so that we can get a range report out of you!! jeremy

Dear CGN guys,

Here's the newest member of my family. I scraped all my pennies together for the last year, and sourced all the parts for this build.

She's 100% USMC spec M40A3 all the way. Right down to the markings.

I'm so stoked about the build it's incredible.

Haven't had a chance to shoot her yet, due to a spinal injury - hope to try her out in the spring when I'm a bit more healed up.

I was like a kid at Christmas waiting to rip open presents, while I waited for her completion.

Now there's another M40A3 out there - only north of the border!

So without further wait, here she is:

Bring Her out to the Oshawa Gun Club. I'll get you in unless you or your buddy is already a member. Stretch out her legs to 300yards. PM me if you want.

Are you going to give your M40A3 a paint job.....desert camo perhaps?

Not for anything! I'm not painting a $3200 scope!

I like the big green USMC machine look the best!

I own it, the military can afford to destroy their equipment!

Cheers, Carl

to say i am both envious and jealous would be a massive understatement :D

love the rifle , congrats on a great addition to the family..

Thanks, dude!

Just wish I was able to own a suppressor like you guys can! Then I would be adding a Surefire quick detachable - just like the XM3 - we can dream:)!

All the best, Carl

Christ they got expensive!

I bought the 4-16x50 PM II for about 2100$, taxes & shipping included, back in March... Is this crazy price discrepancy just the cost of going with an illuminated reticule?

By the way, which reticule did you get in lieu of the Premier Gen. 2 mildot; is it the P4?

I just checked with Wolverine - $3120 for the way my scope is kitted out. It is the P4L - same as Canadian specs - hell, this is off of a C14Timberwolf! Illuminated reticle adds a big chunk of change.

Cheers, Carl

Canadian tmr reticle - cm's vs. mrad

TPS,

I noticed this in your previous post and I have to comment: if your reticle is in milliradians, then it is in cm's. Case in point, a 0.1 mrad subtention is just 1cm@100m, 2cm@200m, etc... So it's really interchangeable.

By the way, at 17lbs, it sure is heavier than it looks.

Uh.............Ok...................

Look, I wasn't trying to be a ####, just asking a simple question.

The marines use a 7.62mm chamber for the M118 ammo.

The C3 has always been chambered in .308 and uses .308 Norma Match.

And wether you want to believe it or not, their are differences between the two chamberings. I would have thought that of all people, the finicky folks in the precision forum would know that.

Anyway, very nice rifle.

M87 receiver, I'd love to get my hands on one of those, or any of the beefed up Parker Hale repeater actions. I've got a stock sitting in my closet just waiting for one.

Mine is in Cm's vs. Mrad - better up here on our metric ranges anyways!

Thanks for the comments!

Carl

I thought they were the same. 1 click = 1cm at 100 m which = 0.1 mrad. 10 clicks @100 should =1 mil which is the same as the USMC scopes.
