m44 russian $195 at collector source

I totally get that, but is it accurate enough for deer at 250 yards? They're pretty much bombproof right? What about weight?

Definitely. You can expect a 6-8 inch group at 250yds. I have killed a few big moose with a Polish M44. 1 was at about 275 yds. Drop right there. Sellier and Bellot 180gr SP hits like a hammer.

The big attract is that I have plenty of ammo for my SVT, it needs an ammo buddy!
Good for friends to shoot in the bush.
Good camp gun, powerful enough for bear.
Nice handy size for transport.

Mine is shiny with strong rifling and the crown looks good. Metal work looks very good, much better than the stock's appearance. Not going to completely clean it up, as it's caked in cosmo and will take some time to do.

Sold! lol

Greasy pics!

Well just got my M44 Izhevsk,1946 dated 30 mins ago:) One thing for sure, when they put them in storage, they did a very good job to preserve the metal! Heavy coat of grease inside and out. Bluing is worn from place to place but from what i can see, no rust or pitting(ofc i didnt clean it yet but seem to be very good). Bore is shiny but again grease inside so its hard to see the rifling but sound's good there. Stock have scratches and bruises but very solid, no crack. Bolt and floorplate are mistmached, i may refinish stock, i will see after clean up. Should look very good once cleaned. Here,s fews pics.

For $195 buck, its a deal!

Wow, now that's a greasy mess. You're going to have a hell of an afternoon cleaning all that off, nice gun though!

They sure were not cheap with the cosmoline, theres tons of it on there. A good scrubbing will take a while to get it all out.

Holy frack, just got mine. I have never seen this much cosmoline before.

I tried wiping it off but didn't get anywhere. I did end up removing the bolt and heated it up with hair dryer and that helped, but it will take forever to do the whole thing.

Oven? Boiling water bath? Dishwasher? (Joking!)

Can you use that stuff for anything other than preserving rifles like coating a tree to keep off squirrels lol

My SVT had a heavy coat when I got it. I did a full strip, then boiling water, then compressed air, then G96.
Its kinda fun to clean them up, really looking forward to this M44.

For some reason after dumping a bucket full of brake cleaner/cosmoline on my garage apron, I haven't had to worry about the weeds growing up through the cracks anymore...

For me, i will use boiling water, that's a proven method.

Tons of cosmo on them... boiling water has worked for me on the metal, the stock has always eluded me how to clean it properly. Steam it out? I like doing these things outside, but obviously it's winter.

Good news, the guy at CS is mailing me out a cleaning rod :)
