M77 Hawkeye Alaskan scope choice?

Trying to decide what scope to put on my new .375 ruger. I am thinking of either a 1.5-5x24 or a 2-7x33 Leupold. What are you guys using on yours? I will be using it more for moose or bear than cape buffalo so the dangerous game use is not so much of an issue for me.

I tried the iron sights and they are pretty good, but to use this rifle to its potential I think a scope is definately in order.

What do you all think?
 
Out of those two I would choose the 1.5-54x24; but I really like Leupold's fixed 2.5x for big rifles and large game. I guess it depends on how long your shots will be and the terrain in your hunting area.
 
Thanks guys. I should have said before, but my hunting can be quite varied. It can be in heavy brush or in open farm land. I try to keep my shots to 300 yards or less. Keep the suggestions coming.
 
At 300 yards or less for moose I would certainly go with the 2.5x Leupold. I know it is not as popular as the variable scopes but it is super light (6.5 oz), has almost 5" of eye relief, and is simple/solid. I have one on my .338 and although it is not ideal for bench-rest precision, it is fine for hunting.
 
It all depends on terrain. If bush/forest is where you hunt - go with low magnification on low end.
If it's 'open country' - you will need high magnification at high end!!

I'm pretty sure it's what will go on my Alaskan 375, I'll opt for the B&C reticle too. 250gr TTsX @ 2800 looks like it will jive nicely with the reticle out to 400 yards
 
The NEW KING has a trajectory similar to a 30-06, so you may want to keep that in mind when scoping it. Whatever you put on a 30-06 woudl be appropriate. I personally have a 2.5-8x36 Leupold
 
Just ordered a Leupold Euro 30 1.25-4x20 from Clay at Prophet River Firearms for mine. Might change it to a German #1 reticle, these guns were't made for popping varmints!
 
For my "heavy hitter" 35 Whelen in mixed terrain I stick to KISS formula, straight low power, light, wide FOV and min 3,5" ER, my old Redfield 2,75x20mm with 55' at 100yds works nicely even at 300yds, thank you and yes the ER on 375 Alaskan should be min 4".

I've got a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on mine and am very pleased with it. It has been (on and off a plane via your normal "let's see if I can break this" baggage handlers) to Alberta four times and Africa once and has never lost zero. After a couple hundred rounds through this rifle, it is still dead on. The glass is very sharp.
 
Scope selection largely depends on the type of hunting/game, rifle type and terrain expected. For the most part the chambering should be a secondary consideration.

I use low powered scopes on my 22/250 instead of a higher varmint scope. Reason is that I use my '250 for deer hunting and a 2x7 is a far better choice than a 6x18.

I ended up with a 2-7X32 Vortex Viper with a BDC reticle on my Ruger. Very happy. Good eye relief and great optics. Totally adequate for a 350 yd shot on a bull elk this last fall.
