I've owned and rebarreled/restocked plenty of 700's.....picked up a lefty Ruger MK-II in 30-06 for my son 4 years ago, rebarreled it to 35 Whelen.
I like the action, all steel, controlled feed, real bottom metal(unlike the 700), good safety(unlike the 700) and contrary to popular belief the triggers are not that bad, I reworked the one on my son's rifle to a bit under 3#'s without creep. The trigger on this 7 Mag out of the box feels like no more than 3-1/2#'s and I can't feel any creep.
The 7 Mag with the laminate stocks weighs 7-1/2#'s bare...exactly the same as my Pre'64 Model 70 308 Norma in a McMillan stock.
now I'll get my Nomex suit on a wait for the 700 lovers to show up
