Ma.Ma.Ma,MAUSERS

Well, the Radom in the attic had a round in it when we found it, but all the k98s had the bolt removed except this one. Note the nice late features on it? Anyone guess the maker/year LOL?:dancingbanana:

If i were a betting man, I would say either byf or dot, early 1944. Not late 44 since it has a late-pattern milled trigger guard and is not a kriegsmodel since the rear band is not drilled from the look of it. early dot44 and byf44 both had milled trigger guards for a short while and both had stamped bands.

If could be another maker, but these are the most likely candidates due to the volume produced at those factories with those features at that time.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

Never been touched since the war:D. I dug this in my family's yard back in 2000.

I'm assuming not your family's backyard in Alberta, unless the Germans had a secret force on the loose in the middle of the Praries.

Where was it found? Any other artifacts been found on the same property?

Not to get off the topic, but in Eastern Europe, our land was where Schorner's 9th Army surrendered in huge numbers after being surrounded by the Soviets. I have found quite a bit there over the years. No battlesfields or graves, just drained ponds and private forest.

When are you going back over for another find?? I'd love to prod around some of those eastern battlefields....

Lots of Russian etc, making ebay bucks,, not happy with the unprofessional grave robber lot but we all know it's happening over there.:(

Yeah, there is alot of that crap going on, but I have never experienced it. I am not kidding when I say it is not difficult at all to find relics, many still on the surface as you walk through an ordinary forest. Mine have pretty much all come from our land and a nearby lake (as locals were draining it to harvest fish). I left alot of things there, can't bring it all home. I have not been back in a few years, have had my family from there come here for a change.
But once again just to clarify, these items were dumped by surrendering troops in preparation for captivity...not a good idea to be caught with an EK1GAB and a Close Combat Clasp.....or an Eastern People's Medal....or a Gestapo disc.

An aquaintance of mine buried his Iron Cross in Shoenberg after he was in American captivity. All his ID papers too... That's OK, though, because he thought that the hole he dug was for himself. They never found out that he threw the cross in on top of the kitchen garbage but perhaps someone will dig it up someday!

I guess if you loosen your definition of mauser....to include Norincos and .22 conversions...

Hey! You got that rear sight cover! Looks great, glad to see that guy actually sent it... :)

I guess I totally for got to tell you! I made a post about it on Milsurps.com in the August purchases thread.

The sight cover is original, to the best of my knowledge, but someone tried to enhance it by stamping SS markings on it...

Just for fun, here's some more...
Post-war Czech K98:

1898 dated Carl Custafs M96/38b:

Note really mausers, more like quasi-mausers ala M95M's from Yugoslavia in 8mm Mauser:

This example isn't made by Mauser, but I would still rather go to battle with an MP38 than a K98k ;)

And finally, just so I don;t tick off all the Enfield guys, here is a 1918 NRF MkIII*

Oh, what the heck, here are some sporters. This one is a Husqvarna sporting model in 8x63 Swedish. It's not sporterized, it was made this way on a non-thumbcut Mauser 98 receiver. Leupold mounts & rings, Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7X. Decelerator recoil pad added and gun glass bedded. This is a FUN gun to run my vast stocks of 8x63 Swedish through :)

This one started life as a bare 1909 Argentine action I picked up at small shop. It's now a full custom in .35 Whelen. Gentry Mod.70 style safety. German EAW mounts. Leupold VXII 2-7. Montana Rifleman match barrel. etc. etc.
