Made in Canada Spall Coated Level 3+ Steel Plates 199.99 per Pair

Sad part is that how many pairs of hands did these pass through with everyone "signing off" saying that it was acceptable quality. Certainly doesn't look like the advertising picture from post #1.

I’m going to be completely honest with you. It passed through two pairs of hands. That’s it. That’s the size of our shop. At the moment there’s only the two of us. We made sure that the spall coat would hold up and all our experiments doing smaller quantities for samples and the like didn’t prepare us for the full run. We do take full responsibility and we are working to find better ways of improving the finish. It turns out what works for sampling doesn’t scale perfectly for serial production. We are taking all the points mentioned and working to find better ways of managing the final fit for our next batch.

Could those rough edges could be sorted out with a bit of cyanoacrylate adhesive or contact cement? Would either affect the fabric integrity?

We thought about that but when we tried it whatever coating that was more fragile that we put on the edge would fragment off when hit and turn into shrapnel of its own. That’s what has made this more difficult as whatever we seem to want to put to smooth out the edges have led to decreased plate effectiveness. But we have a strategy that we’re going to try to make sure the edges will be solid for the next run.

Just pulled them out of the bubble wrap! The one plate is nicely finished, the other is alittle ruff with the anti spall material not all the way glued down. Good luck trying to get this stuff off it’s on there. Next time a friend is getting their new shinny trucks bed liner line-X / rino lined,I’m getting the front and back of the plates sprayed for free 1/4” thick. There is a light coat already on the back...These plates are a very good deal at $199.

Thank you for the understanding. That would cover the edges and we will be looking at incorporating something similar as we move forward.

For $199 for a set your lucky there’s not a gong hold in the top middle of these things lol.

@AITacticalSolutions I’m all for working at making a slicker product, however please don’t focus so much on looks that costs then go up to the point of either. Your plates are then on par and competing with others or B they become unprofitable to the point you stop making them. This is another instance in life where two 5’s are better than one 10...

P.S. Where’s my helmet with Visor, I am impatiently waiting!!!

Thank you for the kind words our primary has and always been making things as affordable as possible and to damn well make sure that they work. However as we continue we are committed to improving the product without increasing the price. We will be rolling out some new ideas and will be doing our absolute best to make sure these issues are addressed in the next run. I give you an absolute promise that as we continue our quality will improve and we will sort this out without any increase in price. As for the helmet that’s coming soon on the list we have some designs that we are actually getting ready to prototype soon.

I just want to address something here. I promise to all of you we will fix the finish issues with our plates and for the next batch we will make sure that this is no longer a problem. That will be our priority to improve our process and give you the best product we can.

This is exactly one of the many reasons why I continue to support and purchase numerous products from AIT.

I've got a set en route and to be honest its my first delve into steel plates so sorry for the dumb questions I'm about to ask.

-Does the area that's not coated become a potential spall issue? other than the obvious issue of incoming lol
-If its not quite glued down will the material begin lifting over time and with handling?
-I have soft armour can this be layered under the plates?

Thanks

Not a problem at all. The entire plate is covered by the spall coat but the weakest area would be around 1cm from the edge. As for it lifting it shouldn't do that over time we made sure that the coat is adhered as solidly as possible. As for layering soft armor yes you can and it would help cushion the impact but other than that it wouldn't do that much more than that.

Which link would you like us to pm to you?

Sorry guys I meant to respond to someone else up the thread. I was curious about the antispall he posted a pic of and said he got it from AIT.

I keep updating the page to see when more pre-orders are available. Don't want to miss the 2nd batch.
