The centre of the pop rivet in mine is 54.4mm below the bottom surface of the notch in the back spine of the mag
Unpinning a mag to disassemble it and clean it is fine, if you reassemble the mag without immediately pinning it is illegal.
Do not unrivet the mag clean and reassemble without immediately riveting it back they way it was.
That's a pretty grey area of law.
Not any longer... Pretty clear. Unpinned mag bodies meet the definition of "prohibited device"
We can now all sleep more peacefully.

That case law makes it clear as mud. Basically pin your magazines before they come across the boarder.
That case is odd...did you see this:
[33]...However, read in context and with the reference to section 84(1) of the Code, it is clear that the phrase “components and parts” relates only to weapons, and not to accessories or cartridge magazines.
[34] In any event, I conclude that the magazine shells imported by Mr. Cancade were prohibited devices,...
Is it just me that she says the mag parts shouldn't be considered prohibited by definition...but then basically says "I don't care...I'm calling them prohibited"?
Wow, what a terrible ruling. Glad that I read it, though.
Was looking to get an LMT fixed front sight for my XCR, found a site that ships to Canada, and also noticed that they sold pmags. Asked if he could ship them to Canada, because I was pretty certain that he wasn't. Buddy said yes, and I thought 'great, i'll pin them when they arrive and i'll be set at the range.' Not so much, eh?
Messaged him to cancel the order. Hopefully i'm in time...! Otherwise, might be for my own legal expenses that i'm asking for donations..!
