Hey everyone,

I have a question...:nest: about magazines. I understand the law restricts magazine size, but could anyone provide me with the legislation/laws on pinning magazines.

I am wondering if you could have a true 20 round magazine that is a fully functional 20 round mag but pinned with a rivet at 5 rounds. Would this be legal? or must the magazine only be able to support 5 rounds total by limiting the function of the magazine in some manner or fashion. an example would be a 5 round false bottom mag made to look like a 20 round mag.

also if I buy a 5/20 round mag from a dealer are they a true 20 round magazine pinned at 5 or like said above a false bottom mag.

Also I assume a bolt and washer nut do not count as a rivet correct?
 
It is legal to have an originally 20 rd magazine "permanently" pinned to 5rd

also what are you shooting?

5 round limitation is for semi-auto center fire rifles/shotguns only

I think Marstar has M14s (M 305) mags that look like 20 rounders, but only hold 5. Not pinned just five rounds. I don't think a bolt and nut will cut it because it is easy to remove if you decide to go on a kill crazy rampage. I could be wrong on both matters though, some other people here would know better.
 
A rivet will suffice. You cannot use a nut and bolt. The point is that it cannot be EASILY undone. You CANNOT import (actually no one can) a regular capacity magazine (like a 20 or 30 rounder) and reduce it to 5 here. It must be imported as a 5 round magazine. Companies can import regular capacity magazines (like 20 or 30 rounders) but can only sell them to the Government, Police or Military clients; they cannot turn around and pin them to sell to civilians.
 
I believe that pinning mags in Quebec is forbotten, if i am not mistaken?
Yes, they have their own set of rules it seems.
I am sure someone from Quebec can comfirm this?
 
I am sure a friend of mine awhile back,
said the "Fuzz: there would not accept any modified mags.
I will inquire about it, as i remember the stink about it at the time.

Yes. Ammunition must be kept "separate" from your firearms or locked up--it doesn't matter what kind of container it is in.

The law makes no distinction between ammunition that is loaded in a magazine and ammunition that is in a box, plastic case, or clip. You can keep full magazines in the same locked container as the firearm as long as they are not actually inserted in the firearm (which would, of course, make the firearm loaded).

Can you do it legally? That's another question.
Are you a US licenced exporter?
Gun parts can be exported from the US by licenced exporters.

There is a CBSA document that recognizes rivetted magazines as being acceptable.
But do be aware of US federal law. US Homeland Security is serious about arms control export regulations. Getting caught illegally exporting gun parts from the US would make for a very bad day.

here is the quote from a buddy of mine from Labelle Province.
Long time shooter such as myself.

The way it works is , let say you have a 9mil 16 rounds mag. You go to any gunsmith and he certifies that the mag as been pinned down to 10 rounds. You are not allowed to do this on your own.

You then send the certificate to SQ and they put the piece of paper in your file (yes, they have a file on you if you have R.H.G. in Québec) and they acknowledge that you are in possession of a legal capacity mag!

Dozens of people I know did this!

all mags in canada are already pinned. :rolleyes: where would someone get an unpinned mag.

so the SQ is registering your mags ehh? if you have a rifle with 10 mags, and sell off half of them for another project, do you have to write a leeter saying you sold the mags out of province?
