Being "ordered" into a situation of obvious threat to ones life and complying is your problem. A smart officer would avoid such situations. I do agree that being swarmed can and does happen. At that point, the firearm should be deployed and done so with great speed and violence of action.
F*ck the legal side of the situation. Your/my life is far more important than keeping a job or worrying about being charged. Survive the fight, then worry about the legal crap.
On a side note. It is interesting to see that only S&W offers magazine disconnects on their firearms. I don't believe any other manufacturer has ever offered such a device.

... Being "ordered" is one thing, but inadvertently finding oneself in a "bad situation" is another. Bottom line, the magazine disconnect is just another option, and to use it or not is up to the individual. ( Believe it or not, but back when the mdl.10 was the standard Police side arm, there were times when the rounds were physically removed from the cylinder ! ) ... David K.
