MagnetoSpeed V3 vs Labradar

I recently had the opportunity to test both with the same rifle and handloaded bullet, simply to compare data.

The results are very easy to compare: out of 20 bullets fired with 20 second intervals between each shot, 20 bullets fired with both "velocity readers" set up, reading velocities at the muzzle and the data showed a difference of 2 fps between avg speeds, SD and ES were the same. Easy enough. Is the price of the Labradar worth it? Not in my opinion.

Also to be noted, the MagnetoSpeed V3 does produce a point of impact shift of half an inch at 100 m with my setup and handloaded ammo.

PS: This is not a scientific test, simply comparing both velocity readers from a user point if view.

Bullet tested: 130 gr Norma Golden Target, H4350, CCIBR2, Hornady brass. 2840 fps and a 6.1 SD for 10 shot string.

Rifle: Rem700 5R GII 6.5 Creedmoor, Bushnell 3.5-21x50 DMRII, Nightforce rings and base, Harris bipod and HS Precision stock (bedded).

Hope this helps.

I r. Even using mine for about 3 plus years ....and no point of impact shift ....so is your worried about a 1i ch move from 0...to 300 yards or meters ....my opinion is ....that’s absolutely nothing to worry about .....I’ve tested mine from my 220 swift to the big ones ...nothing at all
To each there own

A half inch POI shift is not a big deal at shorter distances but at longer ranges in the 700M +, it makes a difference.

There are now options to mount the magetospeed to the stock or chassis removing any influence on the barrel.

Both work well and have proven to give near identical results.... and these results are not affected by weather which is so important. The Labradar can be hungry with batteries so keep some charged or spare.

If velocity tuning is important, pick your style and enjoy.

Labradar powered by the 10000mah rechargable USB power bank will last 4-5 range trips (recording on average 100 rounds per trip)

The LBR works also as a data logger. Collecting velocity out to 100m die range. If you're into correcting BC or your dope chart it could be beneficial. Setup is way easier with the LBR doesn't require shims for different types of barrel contour and it doesn't come loose during sustain string fire. Our require any special my to avoid poi shift. YMMV.[SUB][/SUB]

Labradar also works in low light or no light conditions. I've used mine in the gravel pit at 10pm in January doing a ladder test to find pressure

And you can clock a bow, a slingshot, air rifle with the Orange Box. You can switch rifles at the range as you want without any setup. Two nice options, I got the Lab and no turning back, but Magneto is a schweet product too.

I met a guy at the range who said he'd never got his Labradar to work correctly as it had some kind of glitch with the software

EVERY thing made ! has some Defective ones ! Mine and my Buddies work GREAT ! TODBARTELL has about a million rounds thru his ! RJ

Hopefully not through it literally!;)

Yeah you're right, perhaps the guy I spoke with hadn't updated the firmware (which fixes most issues with anything electronic) but he definitely seemed to be struggling with his.

I got the V3. It gives readings with shot shell loads, Labradar doesn,t.

I got the V3 too as I can measure pistol rounds (when using the adaptor)

The Labradar looks like a sweet unit but the cost is getting up there and I always wonder what happens when other shooters are nearby

Nothing special happens if you set it up properly. It will only read your shots unless the other guy aims at your target. Just need to make sure of be on 2 different channels if there is another Labradar on the line.
