Magnum Primers in 22-250 with Win 748

Ball powder does need / and recommend magnum primers .....groups were cut in 1/2 by simply switching to magnum primers in even my CZ527 7.62x39 ........I use that S--T on everything.........Harold

A prime example of why you should try both. You may find a standard primer works better in your particular rifle.

Our American Lake City Army Ammunition Plant uses magnum primers to light off the ball powder loaded in the .223/5.56 and .308/7.62 ammunition.

Ball powders are double base powders with more deterrent coatings than single base powders and are harder to ignite.

A magnum primer has a larger primer pellet that burns longer and slightly hotter than a standard primer.

If you would read the front part of your reloading manuals you would learn more about primers.

Now read the link below and look at the primer photos, I use the Remington 7 1/2 primer to light off ball powders in my .223/5.56 just like Remington did when they ran Lake City.
