Magpul - Art of Dynamic Handgun

I just checked the website. They dont ship to Canada. So I guess the only way is too download when it gets to torrent? Too bad for them... Lost our business.

The gun already lives up to expectations, and now all you're doing is starting to drool because Costa is using it in a video... which is EXACTLY why they put it in there to begin with. He probably got it for free or even got paid to use it in the video as an endorsement.

My point was that its an M&P, we already know all about it, its been around for years, and its a fine gun. So is a Glock, so is a Sig, so is an STI, and so on.

The gun isn't part of the system he is teaching you. He can shoot just as well with any other semi-auto. If he can't, then he's a hack.

Of the tactical shooting trainers I have seen or had contact with in one way or another, I am trying to think who is running Sigs or STIs?

I think Todd Green's use of the MP9 has been instrumental in showing its capabilities...I'm not surprised to see more guys starting to run them rather than Glocks for instance.

When guys who burn a thousand rounds a week without fail start migrating towards a particular platform, I would say it's definitely worth having a look to see what they're using.

For most people, their gear is the least of their problems. At the same time, there is no point in ignoring the impact appropriate equipment has on you abilities.

Five years ago I doubt very much you would have seen guys in Simply Dynamics' league running MP9s. The fact that they are now is definitely interesting.

Maybe the other options seem like "fine guns" to you, and no doubt they will do for 99.99% of shooters, me included. But I do keep an eye on what the buzz is among industry pros and the MP9 has been getting solid press for maybe 2 years now. But that is relatively recent. Among people for whom "this gun is fine" is not enough, transitioning platforms is undertaken more slowly and cautiously than for recreational shooters. I don't watch Magpul vids to see what they have because I want to imitate them...but I do take note of the equipment they feel is adequate for their needs. That is a way shorter list than most people's and I would not automatically assume either Sig or STI are one it.

Very true. Although in their other videos their selection of firearms changed from time to time. Clearly manufacturers are looking for product endorsements and I wouldn't be surprised if Haley/Costa choose to switch it up to reinforce the fact that the skills are transferrable to most if not all makes and models.

I'm betting the use of Raven stuff isn't a product placement - I know you've got some Raven stuff too - so you know they're not exactly a "Product Placement" sort of outfit, the backlog is up to 45 days now. :D

I do have an RCS holster and it is quite nice. There's no way these guys are running strictly personal guns. Product placement/endorsements are the norm. Either way, what they use has nothing to do with the skills being taught.

The kicker about Costa's "Professionals train until they get it wrong" line is that he's actually mis-quoting somebody else.

The real quote is, "Amateurs train until they get it right; professionals train until they can't get it wrong."

The kicker about Costa's "Professionals train until they get it wrong" line is that he's actually mis-quoting somebody else...

He's explained this to say that one aspect of training is to push your skills and gear to the point of failure... and then work on that failure and build up from there.

If your training isnt pushing beyond your limits you have less basis for improvement.

Yes, that's his rationalization of a quote that probably didn't make sense at first since it was iterated incorrectly to him. (If he knew the original correct quote I suspect he would state so.)

I am waiting for TDC's review of this video before buying it, I do not want to waste my money buying a useless VHS tape that is put together by clowns.

From the previews of the video, it looks like the same basic stuff taught at many high end schools. I'll definitely watch it, I don't know if I'll buy it.

I have no doubt that any review TDC does of the Magpul handgun DVD will be widely read and discussed at ranges across the country.

I doubt my review(s) are discussed at any range. Those who go to the range probably don't learn their skills from a DVD. Well, at least those that don't shoot from the bench and consume triple digit quantities of ammo per visit.

As for my previous review, I have yet to hear from anyone as to why there are major discrepancies in what they preach compared to what they practice. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss the issues. That goes for anyone here. I'm open to civil debate and discussions.

Well, I have heard your reviews discussed at two different ranges by some pretty accomplished shooters, actually.

As far as your last review, I do agree with some of your points and all I can really say is what I said last time...I think you should post it on M4Carbine.net where I am sure you will be able to get a very rational assessment of your review not only by the guys from Magpul Dynamics but from a variety of professional shooters, many of whom have extensive experience not only in competition but also in combat.

I am not sure what your experience is (my intention is not to be facetious or insulting here, I really do not know anything about what your background is) but some of the people at M4C have done a lot of shooting and are playing at a pretty elite level, and they demand a pretty high level of professionalism in the posts there.

I would think a guy like you would be interested to hear the take of people with a lot of training AND a lot of two-way shooting experience on your review and your methods.
