Magpul b.a.d. Lever

Am i the only guy around who's finger reaches the mag catch, rendering this 40$ piece of metal useless?

Its not for the magazine catch. It operates the bolt catch. Perhaps this is what you were referring to? As I mentioned the BAD comes into its own when clearing a class 3 malfunction(double feed). It permits the operator the ability to lock the bolt to the rear without removing your firing grip and monkeying with the rifle, saving time. Using the BOLT CATCH to chamber a round on a fresh magazine is a poor tactic.

Yeah bolt catch, sorry about that, wasn't paying attention to what I was typing.

Meh... I did the gunfighter program and urban ops course, I got my tac mag changes down to a little under 2 seconds; without this contraption, that is. This is one of those things that I find are well... silly efforts by companies to make profits by reinventing the wheel over and over again. Not bashing Magpul or anything, I use some of their products on my ARs.

I'm lefty so my trigger finger is about 3 centimeters from the bolt catch, it's just a question of extending my finger to reach the catch. Thats one 40$ (and the money I'll save on shipping) I will gladly use for ammo. Just another piece of gucci kit that in my opinion no one really needs, at least in my humble experience.

Just my 2 cents

Like I said, its not for doing reloads, or atleast it shouldn't be used as such. You as a lefty get the advantage, and a $40 savings.

Don't get me wrong. I used reload as an example but I mean every time you need to use the catch for all stoppages.

One piece of kit that is a life saver is the extended charging handle latch. Works wonders for lefties and makes things faster for righties as well. Used to be I had to move my optic further up the rail to be sure to be able to hit the latch on the first try.

Have any of you laid your hands on a grip pod? I believe the US is issuing them out now. As soon there's contact you hit the ground, or ledge, or wall, or the hood of your vehicle, press the button and your bi-pod bursts out. Nice and stable and it allows clearance for mag changes. Wonderful piece of kit.

Extended charge handles are great, I run Gas busters on both my carbines. I don't buy the grippod gimmick. Its plastic for starters, its huge and the desire to support the rife applies at extended ranges. If I'm engaging a threat at extended ranges I probably have the time and luxury of using other objects for stability. I find monopoding off the mag works just fine for 300-400 yard hits. Before someone says it, using the magazine as a monopod does not induce stoppages.

I have 20+ years of AR experience, this is both Military and personnel use. Not that I’m an expert but I’m very familiar with the AR platform.
I have done gunfighter, urban ops ect.
I’m not into having my AR(s) full of gadgets, but I do think that the BAD has some merit.
I never use the Bolt catch for empty mag or a stoppage drills. I use the cocking handle, ensuring the bolt goes full forward plus then I go into a press check, when reqr.
I will run drills with and without the BAD.

Where does that story about resting on your mag creates stoppages from? I remember 4 years back a warrant on my battleschool told us the same garbage. One of those fairy tales half of us believe.

It is a fairy tail. I have seen mags that had elongated holes in the mag that caused feeding problems. Weather it was used a monopod or not.

Aren't you supposed to go to your secondary and find cover when you have a double feed anyway?

I love extended cocking lever though, I run a PRI too.

Why would you deploy your pistol when engaging threats beyond 25 yards?? Inferior ballistic trajectory, large crude sights, limited capacity, unstable when compared to shoulder controlled firearms and poor terminal performance. Inside 25 yards is a transition. Outside 25, seek cover, clear the stoppage and continue the fight. Its called your primary for a reason.

My point exactly. If you are going to cover to clear the double feed, is it worth the extra .25 second to have the B.A.D lever? Maybe, but only if the double feed clears perfectly (I.E, lock bolt, pull mag and rounds fall out). Unless it clears perfectly, which often double feeds don't, it is of no advantage. If you don't have time to clear it properly under cover then I propose a working pistol is better then a jammed rifle whether it is 25 yards or not.

This is one of the few Magpul items that doesnt interest me, seems sort of like a waste
