Magpul CTR stocks

brownell's will get stock again, they update stock quite frequently keep checking back, might take a few days, but they'll get 'em in again

Yes but the US State Dept will no longer allow any collapsible/folding stocks or stock parts for civilian market export. You can buy one if you find one in canada, but no more from US.

Mine's a Milspec but it was bit tricky to find out.

How's it tricky? Just look at the the threads that go into the receiver. If the tube is the same diameter as the threads than it's commercial. If the tube is a smaller diameter than the threads than it's milspec.

And as has already been pointed out, Brownell's cannot ship telescoping stocks or parts for them outside of the US.

Brownell's sells it for under $100, doesn't that nullify need for export permit? Or did something change?

My friend ABHobbyist is on the money with the numbers. :)

Here's the pertinant info:

Yeah a few months ago they changed a few things. You can no longer get flash hiders, barrels/firearms threaded for or with flash hiders, 5.56 or 7.62 chambered barrels (or even lowers/recievers marked such), or collapsible, telescopic, or folding stocks or EVEN the parts related to them. This includes buffer tubes/reciever extensions for adjustable stocks. THIS IS A US REGULATION, and as such only affects stuff from the US... which is unfortunately where most of the cool stuff is from.

This restriction applies regardless of the items' value. Under $100 or not.

There are a few offerings available from other countries though... Sabre Defence makes really high end AR's so I would imagine Wolverine can get regular carbine stocks and buffer tubes and such but it will be $$$. Questar and some others have adjustable stock kits from "asian suppliers".

But no more of the cool Magpul, LMT or VLTOR stuff.

FWIW the Commercial stock with the but pad works well on the Mil Spec tube and locks up nice and tite with the friction lever snapped in.

I bought a CTR from Questar when he had them. Great stock for a carbine. That and the Sopmod caught my interest. It will be harder getting them. I'm holding on to this one.

Yes, the commercial stock will fit, it's obviously bigger, but it's not intended for the mill-spec tube. It's a loose fit.

I hope the State Dept. realizes they are just creating a new area in the black market... one that supplies target/competition shooters.

With the these types of prohibited for export items for sale to anyone in the US there will be someone who will try to make a few bucks up here.

There is always a way to get something you want.

anyone try the questar asian one yet? comparable to the US ones? is the but plastic? or thin rubber? can you put a recoil pad onto it?

Btw, What is the purpose for the regulations by the US state department?
Hypocritical? NAFTA? hello?

I think that they are trying to keep the Taliban training camps on their northern boarder short of tacticool supplies and equipment. God knows the US would be over run in days if they allowed tacticool gear into Canada

They're doing it so they can tell the UN to piss off with their country of origin new serial # marking plan etc.

The UN wants to impose some kind of global arms regulation(bunch of new "laws"... I'm not well versed on the details...). You can find more info if you search for it. As far as I know, the US is creating all these new regs so they can say "We dont need your plan; look at how tightly we already control arms exports!"

And then they also give the lines about how they're trying to prevent taliban and iraqi insurgents from getting ahold of western arms and equipment or something along those lines. I'm no soldier so I can't say I know... but somehow I doubt insurgents are thinking "If only I could get ahold of a Magpul adjustable stock!! Then I'd really be able to show those damn Canadians/Americans!"

But there are lots of others here who can explain this far better than I.
