Hey,
Just picked up my Magpul MS3 sling today, and thought I would throw up a little thread on them. I had this on preorder for awhile, but not sure if a lot of people have their hands on them yet. I have been running an MS2 for most of my applications, and have been very happy with it. For some of you who are familiar with Magpul's sling, the next paragraph might be redundant, but for those who aren't, might want to skim it.
I prefer to run a single point, as I believe being able to move the rifle around you is more important than having to move around the rifle, and an obstructive sling. I don't know maybe I'm just a b**ch about it. That said, when you have to hang the rifle, single points suck as they are banging off your knees and off barricades, etc. That and I don't know if you've take a Mod 3 BCG charging handle to your sternum but it sucks. But I digress...The MS2 and MS3 allow you to disengage the single point, and attach it to a front sling mount and go two point. Great for when your moving about or using both your hands. It also has a length pull, so if you are running it two point, and need to slack or tighten the sling for a different position, it's right there. (Similar to a BFG Vickers sling)
Anyways, the MS3 is the new version of the MS2, and a vast improvement. They have done away with the Seat belt fabric material, and have gone to some heavy duty nylon. It's also wider...1.25" I think. Also all the materials are made in house by Magpul (MS2 used mostly metals, locks, and joints made by another company) Most of it's made out polymer overmold as well. The MS2's lock outs on the mount jaws were some weird ass thing that was somewhat difficult to use. The MS3 uses lateral button safety, very similar of one you'd find on a Rem 870.
I have to say I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it. The only thing to note if your interested is if you plan on running one, you should get a Magpul ASAP plate for AR pattern rifles, and the RSA sling mount (universal picitanny rail). It gives you a plethora of options for slinging your rifle, and will take a rough go.
Anyways, Im not much of a Review writer, but I like to give good gear praise where it's due. If I missed anything let me know and I will clarify it. I probably wont put a range report, seeing how it is functionality is the same as the MS2.
