Hey,

Just picked up my Magpul MS3 sling today, and thought I would throw up a little thread on them. I had this on preorder for awhile, but not sure if a lot of people have their hands on them yet. I have been running an MS2 for most of my applications, and have been very happy with it. For some of you who are familiar with Magpul's sling, the next paragraph might be redundant, but for those who aren't, might want to skim it.

I prefer to run a single point, as I believe being able to move the rifle around you is more important than having to move around the rifle, and an obstructive sling. I don't know maybe I'm just a b**ch about it. That said, when you have to hang the rifle, single points suck as they are banging off your knees and off barricades, etc. That and I don't know if you've take a Mod 3 BCG charging handle to your sternum but it sucks. But I digress...The MS2 and MS3 allow you to disengage the single point, and attach it to a front sling mount and go two point. Great for when your moving about or using both your hands. It also has a length pull, so if you are running it two point, and need to slack or tighten the sling for a different position, it's right there. (Similar to a BFG Vickers sling)

Anyways, the MS3 is the new version of the MS2, and a vast improvement. They have done away with the Seat belt fabric material, and have gone to some heavy duty nylon. It's also wider...1.25" I think. Also all the materials are made in house by Magpul (MS2 used mostly metals, locks, and joints made by another company) Most of it's made out polymer overmold as well. The MS2's lock outs on the mount jaws were some weird ass thing that was somewhat difficult to use. The MS3 uses lateral button safety, very similar of one you'd find on a Rem 870.

I have to say I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it. The only thing to note if your interested is if you plan on running one, you should get a Magpul ASAP plate for AR pattern rifles, and the RSA sling mount (universal picitanny rail). It gives you a plethora of options for slinging your rifle, and will take a rough go.

Anyways, Im not much of a Review writer, but I like to give good gear praise where it's due. If I missed anything let me know and I will clarify it. I probably wont put a range report, seeing how it is functionality is the same as the MS2.

Nice! That nylon looks more rugged and durable.... I like those clips as well they look stronger, also the clip ring looks bigger so it looks easier to clip it in... where'd you order it from?

I second this! I love my MS3. For anyone who has those moments wishing they wanted more support for the rifle when moving around, being able to switch to two point is a game changer :)

Cool man! Thanks for sharing, I seen these in stock "once" should have jumped on it, use M2 slings now and was thinking of these. Nice to see the actual differences etc, thank you again sir. And yea Blaxsun better order like say 100? Pretty sure you'll fill the needs of the nutters here :)

The whole Single Point sling continues to ellude me other than for 11" and shorter guns.

I do like the clips on the MS3, I promptly pirated them off the sling they gave me.

Yeah the single point and the MS2 specifically have a lot of drawbacks. I had an MS2 fail on me during a course. The pull release caught between my rifle and chest rig and dropped the rifle in the dirt. It was also uncomfortable after about an hour or so into the course, due to the slim width of the sling. During one of the drills the instructor yelled "cover" and I instinctively dropped to a knee. My rifle was slung off the single point as I had transitioned to my pistol and I ended up digging the muzzle into the dirt. I didn't realize I had done it until another participant told me.

That being said, the single point is MUCH faster during shoulder transitions, and, there are no loops, or buckles or s**t to get in the way of your support hand during mag changes.

I'll probably buy an MS3 to see if works out a little better....

We should have our shipment of MS3s in late Jan/mid Feb.

I've copied Kevin's technique and only switch shoulders, and eye/cheek weld. Hands stay in the same spot ie: left hand on foregrip and right on pistol grip. Much faster than anyone switching hands. Usable with most slings, even though I only run Vickers ;)

I'll have to try that. Thanks for the info.

I've been waiting on mine for about a year.... Ordered only the 1 but will get a couple if I like it. So I guess I can warn you now that Wolverine has some on backorder... Ordered it right after I saw some shot show reviews of it last year and still waiting :(

How much did you pay for shipping it to you?

I think I have to pay duty to get it shipped to Canada from Brownells.

Who is Canada sell MS3 now?

Mine was about 60 shipped, but thats with the discount on the order.

Ya there seems to be a complete split between single and two point slings. Though I personally prefer a single point sling, I'll be the first to admit its flaws. Hence why I'm such a supporter of the MS2/3 as I can switch it as I need to meet the appropriate application.

Regardless it's relative to the user and weapon I guess.

I've tried that with a Vickers, and mounting the rear point on the QD mount on the stock. When I switch shoulders, I find I choke myself with the sling, if I dont take the time to slack it out or loop my support arm out of it.

Maybe Im not LAV enough...

Try putting the QD point on the far side of the buttstock (the right side if you're right handed).
