Hey guys,

I just had a few quick questions on what i term "magpul guns".

Specifically the following:

Massoud
Masada/ACR (released by Bushmaster)
PDR

My questions are this:

1. Any word on the release date of the Massoud? I would love to get one as a Semi-auto 7.62 rifle?

2. Where can i pick up a Bushmaster ACR? Is it restricted or non-restricted?

3. I saw this as a prototype. Any word if it is actually being put into development? I am praying that they will make a civilian version of this (though it will probably be restricted).

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Regards,

D

Wonky US export and State Department policy is responsible mostly.:(

well that's s**tty. i originally wanted the MR .223, but then i found out that all of its parts weren't to spec, so i wouldn't be able to add a CTR stock or anything like that. At least that is what i was told by an employee at my local gun store.

i thought the ACR would have been a nice alternative. i guess i cant have it :(

Here is the ACR basic, I wasn't super impressed, my Ar's shoot better and don't cost half as much

why's that? the gun has been released in the states. We have guns such as the Tavor and Swiss Arms .223. Why not the ACR?

Neither of those guns are export controlled by the US DOS.

Besides, the gun isn't all that. It's too expensive, too heavy, and not any better than many alternatives which are much cheaper and easier to get.

Which gun store told you that!

Not to mention the Swiss Arms doesn't COME from the US.

Not everything comes from the US.

Yes (many MR223 owners have done this). I believe the MR223 has a commercial tube from what I recall, so you could put any commercial stock on it (MOE, CTR, ACS, etc.) or UBR. You can change the pistol grip as well.

oh that is very good to know! the 416/ MR 223 is my favourite AR style gun of all time. If i am able to customize it to my liking, i might just pick it up (down the road) after all :)

thanks for putting my fears to rest. I guess just because one works at a gun store, doesn't mean that they know everything about guns :p

Im so glad to know that i will be able to put commercial stocks (like the CTR and UBR) on the MR .223

The ACR as sold by Bushmaster is not mature-

The barrel assembly is too complicated. Lots of dead weight by hanging a metal handle to the barrel assembly permanently. Ditch the handle - make a slot there so common people(or soldierss) can use common hand tools to torque down the barrel.

The barrel nut can be over torqued - this is a no go for a rifle that is designed for general issued. This is getting too complicated for its own good. Beretta ARX 160 has the best QD barrel solution.

The piston rod alignment clam is more dead weight - - another feature for QD that is not frequently needed.

Remington and Bushmaster needs way more work before it can get to the maturity level of its competition - ARX160 and SCAR. I am surprised Remington/BM did not cross out all these issues when it got the design from Magpul. It has no chance of winning the carbine competition, IMHO, if they don't fix these issues and cut down the weight drastically.

Im thoroughly confused now. I just talked to a guy who works at my gun range/gun store (Target Sports, for those who are familiar with it), and as per my question regarding the MR .223 and putting on commercial stocks (like the Magpul CTR stock) and a new grip (like the Magpul Miad grip) he said:

"Absolutely not! The only way you would ever be able to put on a CTR stock to the MR .223 is by spending $1000 to get a new buffer tube..."

When i asked about the MIAD grip, he said:

"Not a chance. The entire gun is proprietary"

So i honestly dont know what to think anymore.
