Magwedge full length SKS picatinny "Kwik-Rail". (Initial impressions/pix)

Hi! Very interesting.

Could we get a few more details on the installation? Pics don't seem to show the same cover-pin at the back as mine. What's involved in the installation, and how easy is it to take off for cleaning. I'm surprised there nothing on youtube about this.

Why did this take so long to get designed? After seeing it, it's so obvious!!

The back receiver retaining pin on the original SKS has to be cut out. I used a dremel, took 5 mins. If you want to go back to the original sight, you need to purchase a replacement such as the nc star sks pin. The new pin has threads on both sides, with hex screws to hold it in. I could make a quick video if needed.

Cleaning is simple, take out the rear pin, and the whole mount swivels up. It rotates from the front sight where the roll pin is. really not that much more work for cleaning, 30seconds but I think its worth it.

How about any measurable accuracy, say 2,3,4,5...." grouping at 100/200m(Y), or perhaps even expressed in MOA's with a scope on it.
Thanks

Nice review! I have a stock sks, my dad has a tapco stock and mags, nc star mount and cheap optic. This rail would fix is cheap optic problems and he might look into this.

Me the problem I see with this is the darn mag release! :s why? Well its almost a 3 hand job to change tapco mags cause you can't just pull mag release with your tumb while rocking out the mag. This to me is a real set back, compared to loading stripper clips. Its too bad I can't work around this ( I migh later wen I have more money) part from that this rail seem like a great combo with the archangel stock , id probably buy a second sks for this 200 $, the archangel stock 250 $~, this rail 117 $, 2-4 preferably metal detacheble mag 120-260 $, 1-4x scope 250-400 $ scope rings 30$... wow thats like a 1000 $ dollar sks:bangHead:

Looks good, but I can't imagine there being any cheek weld when shooting with a proper rifle scope...

Yeah, it's tough enough as it is with the low mounted red dot, anything higher would start to be uncomfortable.
I'd really like the archangel SKS stock, but who knows when that will show up. It's also going to be kind of expensive... I've been considering just grabbing a tapco intrafuse kit. Pair it magpul ctr stock & one of their cheek risers.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd be the best shot to judge that distance. I've only shot at 50 yards, and I'm still getting used to it. Started shooting in early 2013 :)

Id say wait for the archangel, the tapco grip feel like a water gun handle:p

Hmm. Thanks for the heads up... I've never held one.

No problem, I have a archangel on my mini and my dad got a tapco on is sks, and to me the tapco was a big disappointment the grip feels like its going to brake off ( might just be me, I'm shure other love it ) and the gas tube pic rail is finicky. Compared to the archangel stock kn my mini its night and day a norinco 1911 to a s&w 1911.

I'm hoping the Archangel sks stock actually has enough rise to compensate for this. Plus the LOP will be a lot better for us taller types I'm hoping. I actually had my rifle for sale, it had to do with the price of Mags more than anything. Either way with a Archangel stock were looking at a $600+ investment into the platform - close to CZ858 territory.

Up.

received my magwedge sks "kwik-rail" today, thought i'd share some initial impressions and a few pictures. Hopefully i can make it to the range this weekend, weather permitting. Sorry for the crappy pictures, only have my iphone handy.

if any part of this rail is going to fail, its probably with the connection of the top piece, and the part that attaches on the sides. Not sure how its held together, but i would of liked to have seen this as one single piece instead of two.

my old bc tactical scout mount. It was a pain in the ass to install. I guess my sks was a bit out of spec on the insides, because i had to grind down the front right bottom portion of the scout mount to make it fit. Looked fine when it was installed though.

not the case with the kwik rail, the front end was much thinner, thankfully for me.

be sure to replace the leaf spring floor plate before installing the magwedge kwik-rail if you're coming from a bc tactical scout mount!

pretty easy to install. Only thing that took any time was cutting the old receiver retaining pin out with my dremel (you'll need to buy a replacement retaining pin if you want to go back to the old sights). The rail is held in at the back with a threaded tube on both ends and two hex screws. I used blue loctite on them just to be safe. Front mount uses a rollpin. Pivots up at the front when you remove the back tube for cleaning. Really looks nice with my bushnell trs-25.

what it looks like from the rear (don't mind the off center dot, its not sighted in)

you can still see through to the front sight. Not sure how practical this will be, but its nice. When the red dot isn't attached its much better, and just like regular iron sights.

a few optic comparisons. (rail/sightmark ultrashot/nc star 3-9x/bushnell trs-25).
I noticed the mounts on the ncstar and sight mark were kinda loose. Seems like the kwik-rail is thinner than most picatinny rails, just have to adjust the width on the bottom of the sights, no big deal.

the instructions for installation were pretty vague, i was fine with that, but im sure some people would like step by steps with pictures/video. Also, it comes with a strip of velcro to put on the bottom of the rail so it doesn't get dinged by ejecting bullets. I didn't do that, i've done the ejection port mod, so i'll see how it holds up after ~50 rounds through it. Overall it seems very solid, i have no doubt it will hold a zero. Can't wait to try it out... Also, can't wait for archangel to friggin start shipping their sks stocks. I think this would look bad ass with it!

Calling anybody who has installed one of these!:

I am trying to instal this rail but my rear sight is pinned, when I say pinned I mean (there is the retaining pin that holds the rear right in but mine seems to have a pin through the inside of the retaining pin) if that makes sense to anyone. I've read online that some Russian models had "pinned rear sights" as a luxury upgrade to prevent the rear sight from popping out during rough battle conditions,
Mine looks to be one of these models, any one have any insight to removing it? I don't want to wreck my all matching # never issues izzy.

I've tried punches trying to push the inner pin out but it won't budge, and I was beating on r pretty good.
Other than buying another sks and hoping the next one doesn't have a pinned rear sight to install this rail on I don't know what else to do.
Help plzzzzzz!

This is how I got mine out on my Russian 1951 Tula... the rear sight isn't held in with a pin, its two notches attached to the side of the sight. You need to squeeze the sight down, and pull it to the rear. It was a pain in the ass. Remember to keep the leaf spring (the flat piece of slightly curved metal) in once you remove the sight. Unless you really do have something different that I'm not aware of! Good luck :)

I defiantly have something different that you aren't aware of
My pro lum isn't getting the rear sight removed its removing the extra pin that stick through the retaining pin NOT allowing those two notches to slide,
This "pinned rear sight" is only common to Russian made sks and only a couple years not sure which but mine is a 52 and pinned.

My research has told me that they insert a hollow retaining pin into where the rear sight pin on any other sks is but than they take another pin an ass hair larger than the diameter of the inside hollow pin and ram it in there it's suppose to be permanent.

But if anyone has removed theirs with this feature I'd love to hear how.
