Make sure you have trigger locks -story time

Post no pics or videos on social media. Build a gun room with a steel door and padlock hasp. Buy legal defence insurance or be prepared to hire a lawyer.

OP, a sobering story indeed. I am sorry for you troubles.

It is a reminder that if there is a vindictive ex in the situation trying to get you (or any other such person for that matter), it is important to keep your nose squeaky clean and fly under the radar.

Discuss the situation with a firearms lawyer to see if anything can be done at this point.

The law does state that to be considered properly stored, it did have to be rendered inoperable with a locking device or the removal of the bolt/bolt carrier (or "stored in a container, receptacle or room that
is kept securely locked and that is constructed so
that it cannot readily be broken open or into"). Unless that condition is met, you were vulnerable to legal jeopardy.

Yes these laws that oppress us and their application can be absurd and seemingly arbitrary. But they do provide a way to keep our firearms.

It's why people put locks on their plain, stripped AR lower in their safe, as redundant and ridiculous as that may seem.

Not sure if it simply because it was posted to facebook, but the fact that the "ex" had access to his FB feed, she was given the ammunition to make a vegance report. I have a feeling she may have made some sort of report no matter if the videos were posted or not.

I don't post any pictures of my guns or shooting anywhere, even on here. Unless i plan to sell something I will not post pictures of guns, or even make comments that could be slightly interpreted as offensive or threatening.

It is a sad statement because i use youtube videos all the time to learn things about guns and shooting, but making them here in Canuckistan opens you up to reports and investigations. All police need is an inkling of a reason to come in and do an inspection. Be prepared for it to happen at any give moment. It may sound dystopian, but in today's environment you need to be prepared for the worst. Dont leave your guns out of sight, unlocked or unattended even for a moment. It is a good practice to maintain.

1-Never post anything (in fact dont even subscribe to )FB
2-Never allow F/U people like Ex's in your house
3-Never leave partial assembled firearms on the bench for days on end
4- NEVER say anything to the Police
5- ALWAYS get a good lawyer

just wanted to make an update, if i didn't say it in my post already. i know i said i wouldn't come back here again.my ex gf was caught with perjury . basically they caught her lying and making the whole statement up. not sure if she will get charged , but i doubt it.

my argument was that my firearm was inoperable and that i was simply making a tutorial video. the crowns argument was that inoperable or not, someone could break in and steal it , or they think my teenager would take it , which is ridiculous. the reason why i didnt get a lawyer is because legal aid denied me. and a lawyer would of costed 25000 dollars haha , not worth the 3500 dollars in firearms, also from my perspective, i didnt think i did anything wrong.

what baffles me is that they wouldnt even let me sell them, but what ever. this seems more like they just wanted every excuse to take the other guns. as some were rare and no longer sold in canada.

as for my ex. little did i know she was on my friends list under a fake account saying another friends name and profile picture. she was spying on me or stalking me and i didnt even know.

im not too heart broken about the firearms. as i was planning on selling them eventually and was going to get a nice little fishing boat, its unfortunate that they would go as far as destroying them all instead of being reasonable.

as reading all the replies. there isnt much else to the story, except for a long history of my ex doing psychotic things.

basically you cant simply talk your way out of the law, even if it is something as tiny n insignificant as leaving a disassembled gun on the work bench in the basement.

and any gun charge , the governments ultimate goal is to seize guns regardless of any situation. could be as simple as accidently dropping a bullet on the ground and someone picking it up.

and now that bill c21 is coming in hot , its going to be a scary situation for gun owners. my situation was basically bill c21 already.

anyways , wish you all good luck in the shooting world, hope you all go out and get trigger locks. or burry your guns in a field some where, because they are coming for them. and they are finding clever ways to get them.

Amazing you still don't get it. All you had to do was not leave a firearm not secured properly for days. Don't need trigger locks or paranoia to accomplish that.

Well that is too bad it worked out that way on you and brutal about the ex creeping you via an alias account to report you. I used to be pretty slack on my trigger locks etc but since I started getting a few restricted guns, I assume the police could make a surprise "inspection" at any time so I have done a 180 and got everything seperated and locked solid. Live well sir and best to you in your future endeavours

You can press defamation charges so should you choose, May help your case as well with getting your license reinstated.

well probably the last time i will ever post on here again. i am no longer going to be involved with shooting in any way shape or form. not because i dont want to be, but more less, because of the chaos nightmare that my ex girlfriend caused.

this is a story for everyone , but especially newbies. keep your trigger locks on at all times.

i will keep it quick

last November after i went hunting...................

also the sks that was in pieces and had the trigger assembly REMOVED. the gun was unfireable .

For the SKS, this is technically not 100% accurate regarding the trigger. If you have an SKS that is all cosmolined up, even if you have a trigger lock on the trigger and / or have the trigger out, and your bolt is/was like mine - the firing pin completely seized in the protruding position (even when I took the bolt firing pin retaining pin apart, I had to use pliers to take out the firing pin, that's how stuck it was due to grime/cosmo/debris/crud) - if I had chambered a round in that thing even with no trigger, pulled the bolt back and let go of it, and the bolt face hits the back of the cartridge, the cartridge will go off (slamfire) due to the free floating firing pin seized in the protruding position. That said, if you had the bolt removed and disassembled from the receiver, this would not be able to happen.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I can relate - I had an ex wife who called the cops 18 times on me - and the last few she was trying to get my guns removed. It is really amazing how some people can turn on you quickly, and use firearms reporting to get you in trouble. I shudder to think how these new proposed red flag laws will be abused by vindictive people.

This is good advice...and given the social climate nowadays I don't even tell anyone I own guns anymore, outside of family who already know and very close friends. You never know what neighbour, coworker or acquaintance will rat you out. And even new personal relationships, I'd feel out what the other person thinks about firearms before divulging you have any.

For me, when I go to the range now, I back my car right against the garage door and then take my firearms through the house garage door directly into my trunk so neighbours don't see anything. Sad but you never know who is watching.

And I totally agree with other posters about being prudent with social media.

It sucks for the OP the he lost all the guns, but I think he should have known better. I've been in the same situation with guns disassembled for extended periods and always lock them up accordingly. It's pretty easy with NR, a trigger or cable lock, PITA with restricted pistol which has to go back in a safe or cabinet at the end of every session. Chemical stripping and refinishing a restricted is especially difficult and annoying having to lock and case it, but all things restricted are a PITA. Posting anything gun related on FB is also less than ideal.

Yup. A number of years ago when I was going through my separation and divorce and my ex and I were still living in the same house, albeit in a rotating nesting arrangement - one time I thought she was out of the house (as she should have been on the schedule) and I came home from shooting and my range bag and ammo case were in the trunk of my SUV. I went inside to use the washroom before bringing my stuff in. I had no idea the ex was in the house. I was out of my car for maybe 5-7 minutes and the car was parked in my driveway. In that time she went into my car, into my range bag and snopped around and took out a magazine which had rounds in it (guns was all locked in hard cases with trigger locks on them as well). When I got out of the washroom to go back to the car, there she was in my sUV hatch/trunk going through my stuff and I told her to get out as it wasn't her time in the house, and she did.

Days later I get a call from the police that they want to see me. I go in and they produce the pistol mag with the rounds in it and said your ex found this lying on the floor. I said absolutely lies - I always take my range bag and ammo case directly back into the house after shooting. In this one case I had to go to the washroom and so I did and came back out to get my stuff. Ex should not have been there. Cop said she said it was on the floor. I told him honestly how stupid does that sound? I am going through a contentious divorce - I am very careful and lock everything up. But then the cops tell me ex said I did not own a handgun and so what was I doing with this pistol mag. I told him there are PCCs that shoot pistol mags. This guy (older detective guy) had no idea what a PCC was and had to look it up on the internet. In the end, I got my mag back but it's a lesson learned to never even for a second, leave your gear unattended, even if you don't think anyone was around. Yes, I could have locked the SUV when I went into the house, but it was only for a few minutes while I had to do a number 2, and there wasn't supposed to be anyone in the house anyway. Lesson learned.

#####s are Witch’s. Think dirt rotten things . Then go over the top to protect yourself.
I took all restricted to a friendly gun store for sale, under the cabinet. Month later after not selling I took them back to my new home.
