Yes don't use cardboard. Head to the dollar store and buy the Bristol board or whatever it's called. Putting the tape on sucks as it gets wrinkly sometimes, but it still works fine. I used pink, green, and orange (all neon) and all are visible. I put down a washer for the bull (tape over the hole), and used a piece of abs pipe cut only about 1" tall to use for an outer ring (whatever diameter you want )You have to make sure you hold it down tight when you paint to avoid overspray going under it. It helps to cut it as straight as possible. The washer I just taped it to the paper and peeled it off after.
