Making a gun stainless??

Hey Guys!!
How hard (if it's even possible) would it be to have a blued action and barrel changed to Stainless? I would obviously be sending the gun away to a gunsmith for the work. Tell me if this is a stupid idea but I have a CZ550 in 375 H&H. I'll be buying the Kevlar stock but thought it would look really nice and almost have a custom look if it was Stainless instead.

Don't be afraid to be too harsh, let me have it lol

Any gun I have seen that is stainless is that metal throughout the entire gun. How about nickel plating, that would be possible but I am not sure who could do that. Would look similar to stainless steel...............

I have had several electrloly
Neils (sp) nickel plated. Much more rust resistant than stainless. It has been a few years And I don't know who does it now but it is an amazing finish.

Ceramic coatings work well, but nothing beats nickel plating for rust prevention, including "stainless".

^^This. You can't change blued steel into stainless. But you can have it refinished with one of the many coatings (Gunkote, Cerakote, etc...) to have the look of stainless.

If you can't find an alchemist, I got some spray paint.

To the op, "stainless" isn't a coating. It is an alloy.

Sell your steel gun, and buy a stainless one already done, that may be the most economical route to go.

Some of the companies that sell coatings (Armacoat, Cerakote, Duracoat, etc.) have clear coatings that you could spray on over a polished CM action. Not sure what it would look like, but that would be an option. It'd have to get touched up when scratched, otherwise you'd have rusty scratches.

Hard chrome is more durable than stainless. Lots of people choose to hard chrome their stainless. I am just biased because I have a gunsmith who is renowned for his hard chromed firearms an hour from me. I am getting a 1911 done soon. Regular colored hard chrome slide and accessories, and black chrome frame.

Stainless is not the most durable gun finish, and you would be hard pressed to get stainless this polished. This is a hard chromed gun.

That GSG you did looks very nice. Can you do an anodized pink. 1911 with pink anodized frame and hard chrome slide would look pretty sweet. It's ok, I am a woman, and i love pink guns.

The ones I have are not pink enough.

I should be ok with hard chrome as there are not to many moose in Niagara Region. LOL.

You can easily turn a blued firearm in to a stainless one. It's all a matter of algebra.. CM+EE+WTS/WTT=SS.

"Stainless" steel isn't a finish, it's the metal through and through. The blued finish on your current rifle could be stripped leaving the steel "white" and then polished to a high shine that would look rather like stainless steel but it would be quite liable to rust without some sort of surface coating and the cost of all that means you should buy a stainless steel gun instead.

Your equation contained an error, I took the liberty of fixing it for you. Assuming an equivalent rifle, not trading a blued sako 85 for a stainless savage axis, since SS models run a good bit more than their blued counterparts. And yes, I agree, this is probably the best way.
