Man killed by the deer he just shot!!

The one time I had to cut a bucks throat, I had shot the deer at last light & it fell over but got up & took off. Took me 1.5 hours of tracking to catch up with it. BUT, I had gone back to my vehicle to put the rifle away as the law says NO uncased guns after last light... So, there I was with a wounded buck & only a knife... I so wished for my pistol as a round to the head at close range would have saved me the grief of going hands on...

Cheers
Jay

There are certain times when it's worth bending the rules. ;)

Wow, what a sad story. A friend once told me that taking on a game animal is like fighting a mixed martial arts master that is equipped with brass knuckles on his hands and feet and is wielding bow staff. Good luck in close contact combat, I use a gun thanks.

LOL! thanks for he funny visual!!

I was always taught to approach from directly behind & tweak it's ear with the gun barrel or stick ..... no matter how dead it 'appears'.

Same, don't wanna be near the feet or it's head directly at you. As well as look at it's tongue, if it's hanging out.. it's probably dead.

I think some times people just get too excited. Like a couple weeks ago I was with 2 of my dad's buddies, they rushed towards the buck (in the dark) and grabbed it when the one spotted it. I was just thinking, relax, what if it's alive

What does it mean when I read this article, and instantly think "Hey, this would make a great CSI or NCIS episode!" ... blame son, blame other hunters, poachers, etc.. Then find Deer body nearby and realize the Deer did it.

No making light of the situation at all - Condolences to his family. Just a thought that crossed my mind as I read the article.

My first thought was " trailer park deer hunters". lol... I kaint shoot the dern thing twice, I'll use my rambo knife instead... while swiggin a beer... Oh oh,.. bad choice:HR:
