I'm just wondering if any of you are avid Manitoba Turkey hunters. I went out last spring, but the only thing I saw was the tracks of two that had landed and walked on a dirt road. I scouted in and around Brandon, Carberry, Marianopolis, and just south of the shilo training area. there's many on the ranges, especially the golf course, but you can't hunt there in the spring. Any suggestions would be great!

No, there is no turkey season in sask. The manitoba niche is predominately the south / south east. You have to be a resident, though. I will soon be again. I wish there was a movement to populate some part of Saskatchewan with turkeys.

I was pushing bush during the deer season south of Winnipeg several years ago and had 2 turkeys walking in front of my for a quarter mile. Funny as heck to hear them gobbling their way along. They were "planted" there though and we haven't seen or heard of them for a couple years now.

I've gone out 2 years for turkeys now, we've got a good spot in the Pembina valley. Almost got one last Spring, but we spooked it accidentally, and tried again for the rest of the day but no luck. This year I am bringing along some 0 or 00 buckshot with me, because these things will run right in front of you if you're walking through the bush. After getting busted in the morning, calling didn't really work, so we tried pushing bush and almost got one. Hopefully will be better this year. In 2 years I've had 2 opportunities and haven't gotten one yet, but hopefully will this year!

P.S. If you are a youth interested in turkey hunting, give John Krupinksi a call, he organizes a Wild Turkey hunt for youths, you go to a seminar first and get a whole bunch of free stuff like calls and hats, etc. and then watch a presentation, and then go on a hunt. It's pretty awesome, if you want to do it, give him a call, his number is on the NWTF site.

I might be moving to Saskatchewan soon, I was hoping to finally live somewhere I could hunt turkey. I'm pretty far from the Kootenays here. Hopefully someone does start stocking then in Sask.

Too bad about the residency thing in Manitoba.:(
I guess it makes sense though in order to give the turkey population a chance to grow.
Good luck with your move!:)

I read about this guy. I'm not a youth however. I wish they would extend the mentoring process out to all first time turkey hunters as I think it would benefit the sport. The approach the american hunters use "put the birds to bed/roost" Would be great if a person is fortunate enough to scout a flock. I think my best bet is to concentrate around the area I saw the tracks. I imagine the birds are relatively territorial. I heard the pembina valley basin is a haven for turkeys. I did go down to a town called merianopolis or some such thing, met a french farmer to whom I gave a ride from his summer follow to his farm, ad he told me there was birds around. I went to the little bit of conservation land near there, but didn't see anything. I have a friend who has seen many near St. Claude, perhaps I'll try there too. Good luck this spring.

Thanks. If you really want to hunt turkeys, you could go to South Dakota in the Black hills. Non resident tags are 85 bucks US and there are many guides and lodges catering to the hunter (Looks like about 900 for 4 days, though) I know oregon was a good population too, if you are still in BC by the end of april.
