a mannlicher schoenauer M.1910 takedown in 9.5x57mm.
sorry about the low photo quality.
marked on receiver "Made in Austria Patent Mannlicher Schoenauer M.1910"
marked on side "OESTERR. WAFFENFABR.-GES. STEYR"
also marked "FOREIGN" and "NOT ENGLISH MAKE"
marked on the barrel "Supplied by - COGSWELL & HARRISON LTD 166 PICCADILLY. LONDON. W.I."
no proof loads are shown. proof marks are: stylised "NPV", "crown over CP", "crown over V" and what looks like an austrian eagle.
the rifle is a takedown. it requires the forend screw to be removed, then there is a button on the magazine floorplate that is depress and the floorplate rotated 90 degrees and the mag assembly removed. then there is a switch at the front of the trigger guard that is moved to the right and the barreled action can then be removed from the stock.
it has a fixed standing rear sight with no stamping on it as well as a folding leaf stamped "300". it also has a folding tang sight inlet into the wrist.
serial number is a little over 10000. any ideas as to when it was made? i have contacted cogswell and harrison to find out if they have any info on the rifle, they asked for the SN and have not gotten back to me since.
i have 21 DWM cartridges for it (DWM 531), sadly the original box did not come with them.
one of these years i hope to point it at an elk or a moose or maybe even a bear.
rifles are not made like this anymore. the faces of the sight leafs are checkered and the trigger guard screw is not only indexed, but the head is contoured as well to match. as well as the tang sight that is inlet into the stock.
anyways, a neat old rifle that i wish could tell me where it has been.
