Mannlichers....

You bump it every couple months, no chance of it fading out...

Here is a RARE Ruger M77 MKII International in .358 Win... as far as I know only 25 were made in 1993.

Did you track one of these down Greg? If you’ve got it in your hands it would be great to see some more pictures.

Good thread. I got a CZ 527FS in 223 that is quite the sweetheart.

No more CZ fullstock?
Seems a shame how nobody wants to build a true wood and high luster blue gun anymore, such a shame!
Thank God I have MS 1903 carbine FS and my CZ 527 22 Hornet FS still :)
Rob thanks for keeping this thread alive!!

Okay, I meant CZ aren't importing or listing fullstocks in their catalogs intended for the North American market. I see the fullstock 527 in the 2018 CZ catalog but not in the 2019 catalog (no FS rimfires either). Several European gun companies still make limited runs of fullstock rifles, Tikka among them. But you can't buy the Tikka fullstock from the North American importer. They will even admit it exists, but will not import it for you. Europe only. And this is true of several other European rifle manufacturers.

True.

FS rifles are a bit of a boutique thing, and the NA market is all about mass market and economies of scale. We (the "royal we") tend to screw ourselves here by constantly chasing a $25 savings on thousand dollar items. The same rifle, with a sporting stock, 75$ less than a FS variant? Guess which is going to sell, and what's going to sit on the shelf.

The European market s a lot different. With all the restrictions on firearms ownership there, guns are much more of a luxury item. Whereas a lot of us here have dozens (or more) rifles, in a lot of places in Europe, that's just not legally possible. When you can only have a couple or three rifles, beyond that the paperwork woes make it impractical, you tend to get a lot more selective. People will spend the extra money there to get one really nice rifle, instead of what we do here, which is to try and save a few bucks so we can have a whole bunch of really functional rifles. That's not saying "nice" and "functional" are mutually exclusive, but if you can save a few bucks to get a rifle that shoots just as good, even if it doesn't look as nice, that's what the market as a whole does over here.

Yah my CZ 527 22Hornet FS had to imported from the US, even though the CZ catalog said it was available?
Even got CZ to okay a run of them one year back as long as we got a 50 gun order in. We did, and CZ renegade on the deal, I think that was around ten years ago now. Just glad I got mine thanks to Prophet RIVER☺

From the Steyr side of the family...

The 1954 made 52 is a recent buy. I got it planning to rebarrel it to 7X57, only to find out its in like new condition other than a scuff on the bolt handle. Sadly its in '06 which ain't my cup o' tea, so back to the 7X57 hunt I guess. The previous owner had NECG mounts installed for the Leupold 2-7X, which honestly I comended him for. Not butchering of the forward ring or wood for a side mount, and even though I am not a Leupy fan, I gotta say its nice glass, and prefferable to the usually fixed power, non-windage adjustable, 3 post style scopes you usually find on these guns.

Beneath it are two of my 300WMs, a prohunter, and SSG04A1.

The quirks of the Mannlicher/Steyr family are consistent, the 52 with 2 safeties, the side and old wing, and the SBS rifles with their rotary safeties. Mags are of course always that little bit odd too, with the rotary on the 52 being excellent, and the 8 rounders on the SBS rifles never giving problems.
