Map of 117000 acres of crown land lost

The land is for development purposes that's why most of it is waterfront. The two to five acre parcels will for the most part be severed and have cottages or homes built on them and sold. The whole idea behind the land claim is to create economic opportunities for the algonquins and sale of the land is really the only way to generate revenue from it.

.... What ever happened to not believing in land ownership... Or the so called travesty of taking away someone's ancestors hunting grounds... What else is new what's good for the goose is never good enough for the gander .. If anyone's protesting closer to the Gta ill be there.... He'll ill even fake a hunger strike and sit list "demands" and get all my buddies to block trains and highways... Cause we would definitely get away with it

Rather using "I" , it's people's land and affecting us all at the same time. Our camp is being encroached too, west of Perth and crown land near to us keeps lots of deer and feed many hunting families. Don't have any problem with natives but have problems the way hunt ( WILDLY )

As far as I'm concerned, they get far to many hand-outs already. They want more land, than they can damn well buy it like every-one else. As far as them blockading railroads and highways, the trains need to plow through them and our Army needs to come in with tanks, run over and through their hwy blockades. Put them in jail for all offences..

Don't forget the meeting Tuesday in Perth at the legion on the topic. Everyone needs to be there. 7pm to 9pm.

It has never been, and never will be about those issues, it's all about money, and how much they can get, as a handout. It's no different than people screaming about the environment when a company wants a new oilsands lease,as soon as they get money, they forget all about the environment until they see another opportunity to cash in.

Exactly, the laws need to be applied to every race, and these criminals need to be held accountable for their illegal actions. At situations such as Gustafsen Lake, and Oka, protestors went so far as to fire on police, and people were killed. The government needs to stop tolerating this nonsense, and employ whatever force is required to end these illegal activities, before someone else is killed.

How many Algonquins are in Ontario, anyway?
I'm thinking it must be a small fraction of the total population of the province.
How is it they can acquire so much leverage?
Unanswered question, for sure.
Eagleye.

The government is paying their legal bill so it's not like they had to front any money themselves. Really all you need for this is one algonquin and a team of lawyers.

giving crown land away to the natives so they can sell it is not going to be of any benefit to the band as a whole. A few chiefs and their friends will benefit along with their white trash lawyers.
I said before, the government can :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: right off. If they want to give land away and enable the natives to become self sufficent they should give them Agonquin Park. They hunt there as is and might as well run it. Im sure they would do as well as the government does. We have a shortage of crown land as is in this area.

as well some of these two to five acre building lots are miles from any main road. One of these parcels is in a area we have hunted for over fifty years. It is on a nice lake with the only access being a trail, myself and my father made years ago.
I can well understand the need for natives to become self sufficent, but most already are and they became that way from leaving the reserve and getting a job. The natives can hunt wherever they want, why would the government want to give them building lots all over eastern Ontario?

Will you be at the meeting Tuesday in Perth to voice these concerns?

If you read the linked pages ( www .tanakiwin.com ), you'll see there are about 7,000 Algonquins involved in the Eastern Ontario land claims settlement.

7000 compared to the million+ that live in the affected area... Ya I would say they need all that land to support their population.. They shouldn’t even get the areas in red that the government is planning on giving them because they will still have access to the rest of the crown land anyways or is that changing?

Most of the algonquins in the Ottawa region are self sufficient. The land in red is being transferred to the algonquin for economic benefits not as a reserve. Many of the small parcels will be simply developed and sold as recreational properties. Bigger chunks could be turned into mines, dumps, or left as managed forests and the timber companies will simply pay the algonquins instead of the crown. The real loser in all this is algonquin culture. Their grand children will never be able to enjoy all this beautiful crown land as they themselves did.

I'd sign it, why should the land be cut off to non natives, why not make it available to all PEOPLE (as it currently is), not just one kind of people, this is ridiculous, if they get what they want this time, it may be your own back yard the next time!
