Marauder mag issue

your has the 'burr' too? lol

Yeah, but I smoothed it out a bit. Left the outside edge alone, for the most part.

I did not have modify mine but I get the problem. Maybe the problem come from multiples factors.

- First with the factory mag, my rugger have the problem. Less often but enough to not be reliable. Maybe the gun itself have a small problem.

- Maybe with the marauder mag, the front part of the left lips keep down too much the cartridge. In addition with a bad slide shape. The bullet did not raise enough to enter the chamber. So maybe the lips configuration did not help...

- The slide at the front of the the mag is too near the chamber. If you look closely to the picture of the original mag, the slide is few minimeters back. That's certainly help to raise more the bullet nose... With the marauder Mag when the bullet raise, it's really close to the front of the chamber... too close

But maybe I'm wrong...

I think the aggressive sanding to create a "perfectly round" feed ramp on the magazine, might be what's giving people grief.

I barely sanded mine, leaving the raised profile slightly intact. Here is the resulting feed path, picture taken 5 min ago.

As you can see, there is still a large gap between the top of the feed ramp and bottom of the chamber. I think I'll file & polish a subtle ramp into the chamber of my barrel.

Not sure if it's a good idea to sand the chamber. Maybe you will lost pressure if you change the profile of the chamber..

By the way, the problem's could comming from an other factor too...

Maybe the Marauder Mag did not sit at the right place in some rugger receiver. I mean, I really feel the mag did not go higher enough in mine.

I wish I could test an other Marauder Mag but I don't know anybody in Montreal who have it...

We have replacement & extra mags & feed lips on the way. They have a gen 2 mag already to address the problems some of the first mags had. We will post when they arrive, prob end of Oct.

Does everyone who purchased the original mag (with the kit) get the new Gen 2 feed-lips?\

I hope so, but my dealer said that no spare parts are given to dealers so I'll have to contact ProMag directly. I did but no replies in 2+ weeks. I'll probably have to order a replacement form Dave just so I will actually get it sometime this year, but I will hold out until next fall or something for additional Marauder magazines...where hopefully they will be steel lips and have things figured out by then...

My magazine was unusable out of the box, but I did do the sanding trick and it helped a lot. Even still...

hmm I wonder if the fit if the reciever is what causing problems. The SN in mine is not perfectly centered (also keep in mind part of the 7 is covered by shoadow).

Do you guys have it perfectly centered?

im not sure why but mine dont work with a new receiver and a kid trigger but does work with a old 1980's receiver and original trigger.

Helloworld... On you picture I can see what I was talking about. On the marauder Mag, the left lips (the right one on you picture...) is fairely different. The front part of the bullet did not raise freely because the front portion of the left lips is to thick. I don't understand why they have made it this way...???

Other mag did not seem to have it...

I think the the marauder mag design is too sensible...

This is how i fixed my mag problem,I sold the kit and went back to my Tri-Mag and my 25 Rnd BC mags. The Marauder kit was nice but the fake selector switchs and Crappy mag didnt do it for me so i'm saving for a Krinker Plinker Kit.

Some of you that have been reading the main marauder kit thread knows that i have issues with my mag and that it wasnt feeding and the round was hitting just below the chamber. I have came up with a temp fix and has been working so far. What i did was i have some 2 part eporxy ( the kind that you ahve to mix them and then they dry up in 30mins), anyways i just put a thick layer on at the front of the feedlip so that it makes a nice little ramp then wait for it to dry. Voila.......it worked! I have now been plinking away even with the bad feedlip that came with my kit. Now all i am waiting for is the replacement mag. Hope this helps all the people that are having mag issues.

Picture as requested. I cant get the damn camera to focus properly, kinda hard to hold a DSLR in 1 hand and a mag in the other. Anyways, the idea is to build a little ramp for the round to glide over the lip and into the chamber. Dont worry it took me 4 tries b4 i got it right with the right angle and right thickness and that the BCG will go into battery.

What barrels are you guys using? Factory?

The edge of the chamber looks sharp sharp sharp!

A 20 or 30 thousandth of an inch radius around the edge of the chamber will do a lot to stop it from cutting into the bullet as easily.

I've done the edges of a couple .22's with a fish hook sharpener (think like it's the slowest Dremel tool ever) and it only took a minute or two. Some 320 grit wrapped around a pencil point would work for those not so confident with a Dremel. Just need to smooth and polish the area that the cartridge slides across when chambering.

I would expect the shape of the bullet to make a huge difference feeding across the lump that they put on the feed ramp. It looks like you'd need to smooth the transition on the near side, while still leaving the 'lump' as tall as it was to allow it to direct the round to the chamber.

Cheers
Trev
