I purchased a Henry Mares Leg in .22, very satisfied, very neat and original. However, after the novelty wares off, and you actually want to shoot it, an inherent weakness shows up. The factory stock (butt end) does not lend itself to stable shooting. After trying various holding techniques, I decided the only way was to attach a stock extension. I wanted to do this in a way which caused little or no modification to the original stock. The answer was a Lee Valley "hanger bolt threaded insert. It was flush mounted into the butt end, and accepts a 1/4-20 threaded rod. Here are the pics of the finished project:
