I run and own a camp......
I do have rules...... I think most people in here spouting off about camps having rules have never been in one.....
I go out of the way to keep the rules as unrestrictive as possible, but they are necessary to ensure work is distributed, stuff gets done and we all leave camp and have had a good time looking back on our time there...
1- I have all walks of life in my camp...... 10 people, men, women, sons and daughters, serious year round hunters and shooters, and guys that are into it one week a year......
2- I would “guesstimate” salary levels in camp range from about $40k a year to $130k a year........ everything from general managers to janitors, to butchers (handy)..... I can certainly vouch that both marijuana and alcohol use does not necessarily correlate to your job, monetary status etc....
3- I have a “no inebriation, nothing “hardcore” rule in place..... if the guns are put away and choring is done, and you want to have your fun, then have at it..... this means, if you want to have a few pints or to smoke a joint outside then that is your business and not mine...... that being I said, if you spend your whole night with a small pair of scissors, a pack of zig zags and a baggie of weed or a tumbler and a bottle of Jim beam, you WILL be staying in camp the next morning.... as “camp boss”, I make sure to tell everyone that, if I tell you you are staying in camp, you are staying in camp.....
4- I buy a 60 of baileys for camp every year for morning coffee and I am always the first one up..... I mak coffee for the gang as they get up, and if they want a shot, I throw one in..... one..... this leaves you legal to drive, so therefore doesn’t leave you “inebriated” IMOP..... plus the gang gets up easily an hour before we head out... sorry to the many blazers following this thread, but
I wouldn’t allow a morning joint...
5- we run dogs at camp and do several runs a day.. usually from about 7 to 2...... we break for lunch at noon..... at which point everyone is allowed one beer...... nothing more..... also, many of us go out for the “night watch”....if you go out for night watch, then no alcohol or anything else for you until you get back.....
As was stated earlier, my camp my rules..... but by keeping it reasonable, it doesn’t need to be restrictive...
Yes, rules suck...... but unfortunately, common sense isn’t all that common..
