Marihuana at Hunting Camp.

I know a local guy who’s entire family (JW’s) have black listed him for his weed use . Five years ago his dad went into a wheel chair and was told he would always be in one . After trying everything for a year he finally listened to the black sheep son . Zero meds now , walks fine and grows his own .
Young girl in the prairies couple years back on hundreds of pills and having upwards of 300 seizures/day . Dr’s were killing her , parents finally said enough - stopped it all and went to thc . Down to one seizure/day average .
I don’t use it but to dismiss it as “the devils lettuce” and evil is extremely disingenuous. I personally know families ripped apart by booze , never weed

Anecdotally, weed helps a ton of CAF veterans struggling with PTSD who used to rely on alcohol or prescription drug abuse. Much healthier, plus most people won't kill themselves (or others) when high, unlike the others.

Being an alcoholic, I'm not a huge fan of weed, but I have to say that one of my old hunting buddies was hands down the best wing-shooter I have ever known. Only when he was high though, without a good buzz going he would rush his shots and miss.
I totally agree. I used to be really good at soccer. One game I decided to smoke a little secret one before the game. One of the best games I’ve played in my life!

I am in favor of legal weed, it's not for me anymore , but compared to my drug of choice it is by far the lesser of two evils. My eldest son started smoking it at an early age and suffers from a psychosis as a result. He will be on prescribed meds for the rest of his life. It saddens me because when he started smoking it, he was a gifted athlete and almost a straight A student. I thought nothing of it as I smoked a fair sack or two when I was younger with (I hope) little to no ill effect. The trouble with weed these days is it is bred to deliver a more intense high by reducing the content of CBDs and CBNs which have a buffering effect on the THC. When young people with developing minds consume a large amount, there is increased risk of damage to the brain. Keep an eye on your teenagers.

I have been hunting with the same group for pretty well 30 plus years now. About 10 years ago, we purchased a parcel of land in Northern Alberta, and built a hunting camp, which we attend 2-3 times a year.

One of my buddies son (30 years old) has been hunting with us for about 8 years now. We know that he socially self medicates marihuana through his own admission. Having said that, he has never brought any in camp since he started hunting with us. It was pointed out to him that such practice would not be tolerated at our camp as it is classified as an illegal substance. To our knowledge, he has respected that.

As we all know, the use of marihuana will be legal this summer. I suspect this will be a topic of conversation as we approach hunting season.

Most of our crew will enjoy the odd cocktails at camp after the hunt, or a nice cold one after bringing a moose or elk in Camp. As stated above, we have been doing this for many moons, and I am sure many here do the same thing. Main thing is being responsible about it.

This individual will no doubt ask us if it would be alright to bring some marihuana in camp, as it will now be legal. I have spoken to all my buddies about it and no one has issues with it. I suspect it will not be a problem, as long as it is "after hours" at camp, and taken in a respectful and responsible way (same as alcohol). Should he choose to bring some, it will be done outside the living areas.

On the other hand, one may say there is no way there will ever be pot in "my" camp. I suppose whoever has the camp/land control can make that decision. We have chosen the previously mentioned route. Having said that, I am also sure that marihuana has been used on many occasions in different camps in the past.

This matter is now around the corner. How will you approach it?

Let's not derail this one and let's have an open and honest discussion about it.
If you’re drinking then he’s smokin. Alcohol is a much bigger issue then week. I know the older generation will disagree due to how they were raised. But alcohol is tied to more domestics than weed. So you do you. Let his son smoke

Bet my life booze has caused more problems across the globe than the electric lettuce. More anger, hate, bad decisions. Destroyed people and nations. But no, reefer madness!!!! Wonder how many domestic abuse cases were because someone smoked a doob. Anyways, as said above, you do you. Just don't trip over a bottle when you step down from the soap box.
Most crimes, 90% under the Criminal Code of Canada, have been commited under the influence of drugs and alcohol. A multitude of Canadian families have been broken, because of substance abuse. I'm grateful that I have the strength to know the difference between good and evil.

Pot and alcohol are very similar in the fact that they are recreational drugs that can be used in moderation with no ill effects. Both can be abused, obviously.
But I don't think either should be compared to Crack or meth or any other life altering "hard" drug.
There are very obvious benefits of pot as a medicine for a wide variety of ailments, alcohol not so much. The side effects of continuous alcohol consumption are documented, time to do the same for pot.
Kids should NOT smoke pot, but booze can be just as bad here.
Work places and driving are no place for any recreational drugs, the days of "I'm a better driver after I've had a couple" are gone. So now we need a better sobriety test, but please don't call users degenerates.

Sorry to hear that Savagefan, the stereotype of "it's just weed" lives on as the potency has increased.
I hope one day we are able to detect risks of psychosis early and warn people to be careful, my gut is that some people are closer to the edge and can be tipped over.

Thanks for sharing your story.
