Marihuana at Hunting Camp.

I agree that if you own the camp you get to make the rules... PERIOD.. You own it FFS. I don't let someone come in my house and do whatever they want. Its my GD house!! Although I don't agree

with some examples of the rules doesn't mean the owner doesn't have the right to make them. And if those lucky enough to be invited to his camp to enjoy the amenities don't like the rules then the

answer is simple. Don't go.

But as far as the marihuana debate goes...... IF you allow drinking in you're camp then obviously you should allow the guy that want's to partake in the green leaf to do so as well. Just not inside

because I don't want to partake.

I like the cut of your jib......

To add to this, the previous guy that ran the camp (not the owner), was apparently a stickler with a ton of rules..... he left the camp the year I bought it because he couldn’t stand not being in charge anymore..... and he also cost the camp a lot of members..... So yes, I fully understand that nobody wants a camp charter and to hunt under an overlord.... but, the very style of hunting we do there requires rules to keep us all safe...

So ya, for $300 a year, the members get year round access to the camp for them and their families.... 400 acres of land to roam, four wheeler trails, access to great bass fishing with a 14’ aluminum boat and a fully serviced 9.9 merc provided and all of their food is provided for deer season...... heck, I even buy a massive prime rib for the night before opening day.... we all enjoy each others company and always look forward to hunting season all year long...

If all of that isn’t worth not getting sideways at lunch, putting your gun in a cabinet when not in use and making sure to get me your dues by the 31st then my camp would not be for you....

If the guns are out... no dope no booze... Once the guns are put away in compliance....not one to judge... Problem is some dumb #### with an attitude and brain the size of a pea will interpret the written law and current case law to suit their idiotic perceptions... Its pretty simple... no no and absolutely ok!!

Hey look!..... another guy gets it!

But there's some good examples out there of what appears to be the government using this tactic to punish people. Buddy could be accused of trafficking it out of the hunt camp to members.

That would be one crazy situation. Unlikely to happen with someone that shows up with a baggie of pot for the week.

Even more unlikely would be police randomly kicking the door in of your cabin in to search for pot trafficking or trigger locks.

Agreed on both counts..... but I have seen what they do with illegal cigarette trafficking ..... they sure don’t like when someone is cutting into their income stream..... kind of like the mafia....

And there is almost zero chance they will kick your door down looking for some pot and hoping your triggers aren’t locked.....

You can have a beer to quench your thirst at lunch. Smoking a joint has only one purpose, to get you high. Anyway you look at it, recreational pot is for losers, who can't handle life, on life's terms. IMO

I don’t buy that for a second either, sounds like a loophole statement for people who can’t go a day without a drink.

forgot to add prescription meds to that statement. Some of the meds prescribed to me are far worse than booze. But yet some people think because its prescribes its good to go. :)

Really good point. I had to use narcotic pain meds a couple of times in my life and I did not touch my guns while I was on the meds. I don't think I would have done anything wrong but I wasn't about to test it. My rule for myself is to have the guns cleaned and put away before I take a drink. Always been my rule and it has been known to make me clean faster!

That must have sucked...... tore my knee in the forces and they had me on really heavy doses of naproxin...... was really hard to admit that I couldn’t carry my weight.....

lol..... i am a cop, and I could care less about the guy in my camp that goes to the camp fire to roll one after a great day afield. Much like he could careless about me putting a couple ounces of bourbon in my rock glass.... If the Police are kicking in your hunt camp door looking to arrest people and seize your property under Proceeds Of Crime I doubt that you are an average guy heading out for deer/bear/moose what have you season.

That's for sure. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis a few months ago after lots of tests and almost a year wait for specialist. 7 different prescriptions right now trying to find something to get them under control but so far nothing is helping.6 out of the 7 aren't narcotics so they're fine but the 7th is oxycontin. I don't like taking them and don't until the pain is unbearable and I can't take it anymore. Some days though it's all I can do to even get to the washroom.
Because of this I haven't hunted in 2 years, other than pests and varmints around the farm with either the bl22 or 17wsm. Their the only 2 I use because their lightweight with no recoil so I can actually hold them up and they don't hurt to shoot.
When I do take tthe oxy though, I don't even think of touching a firearm.

When you say it like that it sounds not too bad.

nobody should be inebriated in the woods..... period....

Well I have to disagree with you on that one :) Worse thing that could happen is a Grizz our Cougar decides to fight you...lol.

Making eggs and bacon hung over on the skillet on the campfire is a great life experience.

Interesting, in Colorado they have defined an impairment level for driving while blazed as 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood.

https://www.codot.gov/safety/alcohol-and-impaired-driving/druggeddriving

Expect amendments to Section 253(1) of the Criminal Code based on this. Not sure how the Wildlife Acts will be dealing with hunting while blazed.

How do Wildlife Acts deal with hunting and alcohol? I don't think there is even a mention of alcohol limit in the BC Wildlife Act.

I don't think there is in any Wildlife Act. I've wondered this myself sometimes. Maybe it's up to the officers discretion of what he considers "impaired", but I doubt that would hold up in court, the very reason we have set legal limits for driving.

Criminal code would deal with being impaired and having care and control of a firearm. Same goes for any motor vehicles you may be operating while impaired during a hunt.

Having each province draw up guidelines in their provincial regulations would be rather redundant
