TACOM M14EBRs in Afghanistan
“It’s a very precise weapon system,” said Spc. Andrew McMeley, a squad designated marksman serving in
Afghanistan with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment. “All the improvements on it are fantastic.”

Good article, and nice to see them responding to troops' requests for something with a little more "spunk" immediately... shipping the M14EBRs until the army designates a standardized rifle.
Think in the now, plan for the tomorrow.

I was reading they are going to a 300 Winchester Magnum in a bolt gun to make up for the gap between the .308 and the .50 caliber. So they can reach out and toch someone from a greater distance and retain enough NRG to punch through a windshield yet still have a lightweight platform.
i really prefer the sage stocks with the standard collapsable stock.. the units with AR stocks make me cringe .. although probably more stable and more comfortable.. it just seems like dessicration
If that's true, it's not a bad idea. It's been used in urban countersniper work by LE agencies before, prior to some who've made the step up to .338 Lapua.
Nothing wrong with a .300WM for reaching out there and bucking the wind, especially when your other option is a 5.56mm AR15.

H2O thanks for posting. We also appreciate posts from our American brothers.
Someone was probably saying something similar when someone else decided to chop the USGI fiberglass and screw on a Sage 870 adaptor and stock.![]()
Yup! Good way to round out the options and help protect the boys over there doing good.
Those are my favorite SAGE stocks ..
I never knew a round like that existed. Thanks M for the learned stuff but don't expect me to remember the spelling.Damn straight.
AND... if you're worried about man-portability, or having someone armed with only a bolt action and a pistol in a hot zone, just let 'em throw the .300 WM in the LAV or HMMV and take it out if/when necessary. Everyone carries their usual dope, your DMR guys have their .308's if equipped, and there's a .300 Eargesplitten Lautenboomer that you can take out if you need to REALLY get out there.
Cheaper to deploy than a .50, even a .338, but still a great antipersonnel round with comparatively lightweight ammo.

you mean like the VLTOR ? funnily enough i dont mind those.. so fickle
WTF!
