Marksmen issued better rifles in Afghanistan

They are better rifles because they are aluminum, solid stocks. Aluminum is far more reliable and precise for bedding your M14 receiver: alu. requires no bedding compounds and like the SAGE, includes a accurizer that you can't get with flexing fibre and a lot of hassle. I love that SAGE: our dealer sponsor Fabsports is carrying them right now and I have been saving my scheckels! Thanks for the post H2O...

You are very welcome and I'm glad you have a source for these fine rifle stocks north of the border.

I love article like that. Especially when I'm at the Service Condition matches toting my M14 along side those C7s and Suped-up ARs. Yeah, you can shoot it faster at the Rapids by in reality it's worth nil when really doing serious damage at 500 meters. Aw, you missed because the wind change last second.

You my friend are an inspiration ;)
Keep up the good work keeping it real ;)

I would not expect a composite stock alone to replace a battle proven recipe such as a smith enterprise built sage ebr ;) no contest.
Here's how I think about bring the rifle into combat outside strictly DMR
Shorten to 19" , composite or composite aluminum stock system compatable withe AR furniture already in service
An appropriate battle sight for engagements, with authority, inside 400 yards, and in the right hands to 500/600 yards and due to short collapsed LOP and shortened barrel allows good back up for the Ar in close.
So equip 2 ebrs as DMR, 2 shortened lightened versions, an LMG and balance the 9 man squad with 4 AR's

I just feel this platform's modernization as a battle field weapon is not complete with the improvement of the current ebr system
Am I nuts ? Hehehehe

Can anyone confirm the following?

I am told that M110/Mk-11 rifles will be replaced by the Mk-20.

I am also told that the Mk-17 will eventually replace 18" Mk-14 rifles.

It looks like the M14EBR-RI, Crazy Horse and other 22" M14s will continue to serve on.

Likely they are going to reissue 3 band Sniders from warstocks. ;)

Sadly we scrapped all our old FN's, but there is lot's of choice out their in the .308win/7.62NATO calibre.

Don't laugh! I think CMR and RMC still have some in sotrage for ceremonial use.

I'm glad to see they are getting a decent calibre. History repeating itself I guess, Col Cooper would be delighted.

This?

Oh come now, the enfield from which it was derived was good for at least 300yrds.

Theoretically, yes, in reality - have you seen those sights? Maybe one in 20 soldiers of the day would have been able to hit consistently past 50 yards with a Snider, especially when the battle order involved standing unsupported firing lines and rather muzzle-heavy sniders.
