Marlin 1894 Trapper in 10mm

Congratulations Camp Cook!....:)

Although we are a little jealous, ours will show up soon.

I'm thinking you have the first one in Canada, very cool indeed.

Please let us know which brand of 10mm auto ammunition she likes. Apparently they can be somewhat picky on ammo brands. (reliable feeding, and accuracy)

I reload been loading 10mm since 1988 so I can't help with factory ammo.

If I have any kind of feeding issues I'll be sending it to Peter at Rusty Wood Trading Company in Mission BC to do an action job on it he worked on both my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 and the Puma M92 454 Casull both these rifles had feeding issues but after Peter did his magic I have zero issues putting anything thru them.

I'd check with Peter, Camp.

I called him last year about shortening my Rem 7400 and re-installing the front sight, same as he did on my 7600, and he said he was not taking on big jobs as he was retiring.

First Tom Norman and now Rusty Wood......

Nice!

It isn't magic my friend!.....:) It's a painstakingly task of removing all the sharp edges and burrs, all while polishing and honing the mating surfaces of all the internal action parts. I've done a couple of them them now. It takes 4-5 hours to complete if one is thorough.

It is definitely worth it, I can't imagine what that cost's these days. But again, she's worth it...........:)

I haven’t renewed my gun club membership yet so I’m heading out to find some crown land to shoot on not the easiest thing to do when you’re in Alberta

Found a spot set target up at 30 yards

Tried my old 180gr Montana Gold plinking loads

These are the first shots no feeding issues

Tried my 190gr Sierra FPJ loads

Put 5 into Mag tube went to load the first one action felt tight I’m jammed up can’t close the action with these loads and can’t get the rounds out

Going home to take it apart now 🥴

Everything else fed perfectly I’m not blaming the rifle I’m blaming my loads mind you they fed into the Mag tube the same as the others did

Thank you Camp Cook first and foremost!...:) That rifle set up just makes me Horny Baby! What an awesome looking rig!:D

I'm not surprised with the groups you have experienced. From what I see from my research, and there is not a ton of info out yet, is that these new Marlin Trappers are going to be fussy about ammo. Both for feeding and accuracy results.

COL is definitely also going to be an issue!......:(

Those 180 Speer Gold Dots appear to have left the tightest group from your photos. I do like this 10mm Speer bullet as well.

Sorry to hear about the rifle jamming! I guess I will bring a cleaning rod and my tool kit out to my target shooting spot when our guns arrive.

Thanks again for taking the time to post. Please let us all know how you make out. Do you have a chronograph by chance? I would love to know the speeds your rifle is printing.

Take care!......:)

Keep in mind, feeding into the magazine tube and actually being fed by the lifter and into the chamber are two different things.

I have a Henry 45 Colt lever rifle that will allow magazine tube loading of HSM Bear Loads, 325 Grain WFN +P rounds, but will not cycle them at all. Single shot mode or nothing on these babies. Hence I no longer buy them.........:)

I would have been pleasantly surprised if all your different hand loads actually cycled through this new design. Only time and experience will tell.

And maybe a cowboy action slick job that we talked about earlier.

I do just didn’t take it or my rear rest bag

Meaning I did not have the best rest

I expect my groups to tighten up

Awwwww! No worries, thanks.

Well I for one look forward to more accuracy reports and your nice pictures!.....;)

I agree your groups will definitely tighten up with a better rest, rifle break-in, and becoming one or more familiar with that sweet little Trapper.

What an awesome combo rifle to an ATC permit while guiding, trapping, or forestry work. I'm hoping to buy a 10mm auto pistol one day. I know it's probably a pipe dream, however it's my pipe-dream. LOL

I saw a Glock G20 Gen 5 10mm with a flat dark earth brown color and an orange grizzly paw on the right side of the slide. It was at North 40 Outfitters in Ponderay, Idaho. $819.99 USD. It was SKU #2817293 if someone wanted to look it up at North 40. What a gorgeous handgun.

If only Canadians would realize that Liberals and Carney in general are traitors and a real threat to Canada. Sometimes I'm shocked of the stupidity in voters who vote for this piece of garbage. I totally do not understand it.......:(

Working on it now

I removed the very front Mag tube screw from tube cap

Removed two screws from front for-end metal cap punched out metal piece that these screws thread into

Pried tube away from barrel enough to get cap spring follower out Mag tub and for end then just fell off

The one bulletin was jammed in so just lightly smacked it in

Putting it back together now

I’d like to see one in 45 acp. I like the 10mm as well but realistically this is a plinking gun more than anything else and 45 is just more available and cheaper to get brass.
If manufacturers are going to open the door to rimless cartridges I think 45ACP and even 9mm would be a popular choice. I know I would look hard at that option.

Was it an OAL issue Camp? Or something else?

Is that follower (or whatever the magazine plug that pushes the cartridges is called) plastic?

I replaced my 2000 era 1895GS plastic follower with an aluminum WWG follower for better reliabilty in cold weather. It's been fine although Tom Norman had to lathe it to make it fit.

I've always wondered about a galvanic response between the aluminum follower and stainless steel mag tube but it's never happened.

Haven't look at the ammo yet but I use a Lee carbide factory crimp die to size/crimp as my final step and have not had an issue with these in any handgun.

Follower is red plastic

I installed a WWG aluminum follower in my 1895GS as well had issues.

Getting the two screws for the for-end cap back in was a pain but its all back together now

On reflection there was no lube where the bullet was stuck

Also re scopes I have a Leupold compact 3-9x33mm that I am thinking I'll install to do accuracy testing

Just actioned some of my 180gr XTP's thru it fed fine but now the action/mag tube are all lubed with Lucas gun oil
