Marlin 1895 GS Stainless lever for $629.99 at a retailer- good?

That's a good price for a brand new one.
I bought mine used about a year ago for 650.
Granted, it did come with about 70 pieces of brass, about 100 bullets and a nice sling. My former "friend" managed to lose 20 pieces of brass and heavily damaged the stock. Never again.
 
Tried to get a price match at WSS but they told me that they couldn't do it as the price was below their cost. So I ordered one from Cabelas. I asked the lady how many they had on order and she said that there we 30 coming in. Not sure how many had been sold before I got my order in.

So it sounds like they'll honour the sale price even though they're currently out of stock? That's pretty good, as long as a person doesn't need it immediately.
 
Does Cabela's not follow through on backorders? I've read some bad things in that respect.

I notice they're still showing the 1895 GS as being backordered, but it appears you can place orders.
 
Looks like Cabelas has taken the gun off of their site. I wonder if the orders that were placed while it showed back order will still be filled?
 
If you can get one for that price, invest big time and buy an armload. I got mine a few years ago at Island Outfitters in Victoria but it cost me a hell of a lot more than that. Not quite twice that but close to it.
 
Just got off the phone with someone at their order desk; tried to place an order for one and was told that it (GGS) was discontinued and I could not be put on a backorder list:mad:
Too bad....nice gun at a good price.

I placed an order online a few weeks ago. They charged my credit card then refunded the charge, which is what I expected with a back ordered item. I'll let ya know if it arrives.

Hopefully less time than my 2 year wait for a SKS I ordered a few years ago.
