I bought one of the GBL's from Elwood Epps.
Mine has the extra dovetail in the barrel. Remington decided to 'cheap out' with Cdns and give us ALL the GG (short mag) barrels. It is under the barrel and I have an ongoing dispute with Remington over this. The best Remington could do is offer a refund as they know someone will take it if I don't.
Personally, I waited months for this gun and although disappointed I'm going to keep it.
It is cool to look at, shoots well, and seems good for its intended purpose. I'll just buy a filler blank for $5 to stick in the dovetail and forget about it. I won't buy another Remington product again, though.
***Let me take a second to say that Epps has been very accomodating and I don't hold them resposible at all. Marlington are the dicks in this issue, and many on the Marlin Owners Group site predict the demise of this historic firearm....and I agree.
As I 'pre-bought' the GBL I looked it over before leaving the store. The forestock was blonde, and the buttstock was a red colour.....VERY unacceptable....so I tried a few before I left the store. Smoothness of the action varied on all three that I tried, so I took the tight one, ...it'll loosen up with a bit of work. Other than the dovetail mine is perfect.
You can see an in-depth discussion of this and a photo of the problem on the MOG site under the RANT section.
