Marlin 30-30

Have a look in Jason Spencer's GunCo on Colonnade Rd. Sometimes he has some nice rifles on consignment.

Also - try out the Stittsville Shooting Range on Fernbank Road.

22....

The Henry is a pretty good rifle, but the new ones come with the ghost ring - of which the sight picture was a little too big for my tastes and there were issues with cowboy shooting for that reason. From previous posts you will note that some new ones had some headspace issues. Another minor drawback is that they are loaded from the tube rather than from the side loading gate

The 2012 Marlins are a great investment. I have not found one yet with headspace issues. Many of the 2011 rifles had mis-aligned sights - but the 2012 serial numbers are bang on. The action is a little tight and needs a little working to loosen things up a bit. Once that happens, it is smooth as glass. Even the "sharp" edges have been smoothed out. A great investment!

Del Selins are also another great bunch to deal with. If shooting cast, I would recommend that the bullets be a little oversized and urge the use of gas checks. I received some great advice from very knowledgeable folks on here.

Also, you may wish to ignore one of the other comments above - Not all of us here have an almost fanatical dislike of Marlins. My son has a fantastic representation of the new beasties and I am again looking into one for my cast shooting next spring.

Exact experience I had. Bought a 2011 marlin and it was crap all around. Gravel agency sent me a 2012 marlin and its been all good.

appreciate all the advise I am getting. One of the reasons I am looking at a used gun is the problems I have read about with the new marlins. Was at the Carp gun show and new marlins were cheaper than the used ones. Speaks volumes!

I also have a 2012 Marlin 336C and I feel it is a great rifle.
I haven't had any issues with it at all so far.

I think the prices you are seeing on new vs used (used typically being higher) is that many people tend to ask higher than retail prices for used rifles (just look in the EE here), my guess is they think it's worth more now that it is broken-in :p , plus so many people have mistaken beliefs that everything made before year yada-yada is somehow better than anything made currently, which is often not true.
