Marlin 336 Build: Barrel Length and Cartridge Options

I don’t think I would go longer than 24”. And I’m not a fan of half mag. So I would go 24” half octagonal half round with the mag finishing at the end of the octagonal part of the barrel(I know goes against my liking but I think they look ok combined with that style of barrel).
Then I would slim the forehand, get everything refinished and checkered. Put an aperture sight, get the best load out of the 338 that shoot accurately and carry that thing everywhere!!

If going with the 338 Marlin... does a feller go with a full 24" round barrel, and half mag tube? Octogon 26"?
The performance of that round is staggering...QuickLoad has been spitting out some serious speed numbers.

Who makes a tubular magazine appropriate bullet for 338 other than the FTX?

I see Hodgon list a load with LVR ar 2500fps, that's cruising!!

Hornady makes a round snouted 250, Hawk makes "flat point" in 180, 200, and 230, although no pictures of how flat...There were a few others as well. Woodleigh had a 300 grain round snoot.
If a fella can't find what he wants, it's fairly easy to make a pointy bullet less pointy.
It's a very impressive round.
